Much of the interior of Almeria province is semi-arid steppe. It is a parched, lunar landscape of low, mostly barren mountains and dried-up river beds, like a scene from the North American Wild West and it´s no surprise that this is where many spaghetti westerns were shot. Taberno is situated at the foot of the El Madroño mountain range, in the north east of the Almeria province. It has around 1,000 inhabitants, of whom three quarters live in the village itself; the rest reside in its six outlying hamlets, the largest being Santopétar.
Suflí is famous for its fritá, made using tomatoes and peppers which are roasted in the traditional way before being bottled in a local factory and sold. This products is the basis of the Suflí economy. The village has around 200 inhabitants. Sfloy, Sofli and Suflí are all toponyms of Arabic origin that mean “those below”.
Somontín forms a natural balcony, known as the Balcón del Almanzora (Balcony of the Almanzora), overlooking the whole Almanzora Valley, a corner of Almería from which visitors can enjoy the beauty of the area. It has around 450 inhabitants.
Sierro sits in a small corner of the Almerian mountain range. The traces of previous ages are captured in its well-preserved streets, which are so narrow that cars cannot pass. This means that the village is entirely pedestrianised, with breathable air free from pollution. It has around 380 inhabitants.
Serón is situated on the northern slopes of the Sierra de los Filabres. At an altitude of just over 800m, it is one of the few Almerian towns that provide a perfect balance of rural tourism and the chance to be immersed in local culture. The town has around 2,000 inhabitants. Since prehistory, Serón has been settled by numerous cultures.
In the far south-eastern corner of the Iberian peninsula is this sun-baked province, with the highest hours of sunshine and lowest rainfall in Europe. Given Almería's climate, it´s no surprise that much of the province is comprised of semi-arid desert-like landscape.
Lying close to the Cabo de Gata nature reserve, this championship course designed by Ramón Espinosa is within easy reach of the city of Almería. There is a good balance of varying length and direction in the holes and the technique for each needs some considered advance strategy. More than 60 well positioned bunkers come into play throughout the course and it has a lake to the right of the 5th hole which runs for almost all its length – when doubling back for the 6th it is there again on the right.
A mature and excellently maintained course, opened in 1979, it is one of the flattest in the country. It has wide fairways and the small, sloping greens are well protected by bunkers. The prevailing winds can present difficulties and no fewer than 12 of the holes have some tricky areas of rough and many water hazards.
Opened in 2000 and designed by Ramón Espinosa, this course is located in a stunning position beside the Mediterranean. It is not overly long, but the garden-like setting with its multitude of trees and shrubs is incomparable, making it a joy to play at any time of the year. Sea views are a dominating feature all the way round the course and are especially remarkable from the 4th tee. Additionally there are four pitch-and-putt holes and an ample practice area with 25 tees, of which nine are under cover.
La Envia is set in a gently undulating valley and surrounded by mountains which protect it from the prevailing winds. An abundance of palms and cactus and other indigenous shrubs has been planted along the periphery of each hole, making this course a true oasis in the desert-like area.
Cortijo Grande Golf Course is a 9-hole inland course in Almería. This is one course that will satisfy those looking to golf in a truly majestic setting, among rolling hills and not too far from the sea. Almería is known for being one of the lesser developed corners of Andalucia and this golf development represents the best of that reputation.

Part of the south-eastern coast of Andalucia receives little rainfall. This is the very dry province of Almería province, which contains vast semi-desert areas of bare, eroded terrain so similar to the Arizona landscape that it has been used as a location for western films.
Aqualand was a water park located in Cenes de la Vega, Granada, which closed in 2022 after 36 years due to financial difficulties exacerbated by the pandemic.
