Held annually in late autumn, it is one of two major road marathons in Andalucia, alongside the Seville Marathon.

The first edition of Estepona Marathon: there will be two running in 2026. One being a full marathon, and the other, a half marathon. Named as the 'garden' of the Costa Del Sol, these marathons will go through the main streets of Estepona, going past the traditional flower pots, to along the coastline.

Markets (mercados) are a common sight in towns and villages throughout Costa del Sol are an essential part of local life largely unaffected by competition from supermarkets and hypermarkets. They are colourful, noisy and entertaining and an experience not to be missed, whether you plan to buy anything or not.

Ultra Sierra Nevada is an ultra marathon of 100 kilometres in distance, involving a continuous ascent along paths and tracks from the city of Granada up to the summit of Pico Veleta, followed by a descent to Pradollan, a ski resort in the Sierre Nevada mountain range.

Seville Marathon, the third largest in Spain, with 14,000 runners taking part. It is traditionally held on the third Sunday in February. The Seville Marathon is usually very fast due to the flat course and (often) good weather. Race record is 2 hrs 04min 43 sec. The XL Zurich Marathon de Sevilla will take place on 15th February 2026.

Malaga played host to the final stage - seven team meetings in total, featuring the last eight teams - of this men's international competition. The semi-finals took place on 24 and 25 November and the final on 26 November, with Italy the winning team crowned Davis Cup Champions.

The mild climate also attracts major international competitions to the area, both on the Costa del Sol and in major inland cities. In 2023 and 2024, the two top global team events in the tennis calendar are both holding their finals in the region.

Outside Nueva Castella village and on the edge of the La almoraima estate is the Hotel Casa Convento La Almoraima. The woods that lead up the the historic hotel are open to the public and a car park is provided to explore the woods on a couple of marked forest paths. The hotel which was a convent is constructed around a centra courtyard. ther eis a bar and a restaurant open to the public.

Chilches is a small town about one kilometer form the coast located in the extreme west of the municipality of Vélez-Málaga, in the Eastern Costa del Sol. it has a population of about 4.000 inhabitants.

Almayate is a small town one kilometer from the coast on the eastern Costa del Sol in the province of Malaga. It is a dependent of Vélez-Málaga municipality.
