Dreambeach Music Festival 2025 - 7th to 10th August 2025
Contemporary music and dance festivals in Andalucia
Dreambeach returned to Retamar near Almeria city in 2025. Dreambeach had moved to this new location at La Toya, Retamar close to Almeria City and Almeria Airport for the previous 2024 edition leaving behind ten years at Playa Villaricos (Cuevas del Almanzora, Almería). Dreambeach was originally a two-day dance festival featuring top electronic music that had grown to a four or five day event. Around 30.000 festival goers attended the auditorium on each of the three full set days. The fourth day, the Sunday was a rest and packing up festival day. There was camping zone for 30.000. The remote Villaricos site was strictly over 18 years old however at the Retemar site the organisors had changed this policy permitting those 16 and 17 to attend with parents signed permission.
Whilst the change in venue had created much media interest in 2024, much less attention was paid to the 2025 edition, which featured three stages, over 500,000 watts of sound, 600 square metres of screens and more than 200 mobile projectors. The organisers expected 120,000 spectators (40,000 per day), which was the same figure as in 2024. However, Almeria City Council reported 'more than 90,000' (i.e. 30,000 per day). the local resident's pressure group called 'No al Dreambeach en El Toyo' (No to Dreambeach in El Toyo) continued to oppose the event however there was little media coverage unlike 2024.
The 2025 edition had been sponsored by National Institute of Performing Arts and Music, the Almeria City Council (€375,000), and the Andalucia Regional Government, Diputacion Provincial de ALmeria. The policing cost for the assistance and the "advanced command post" located in the "Cabo de Gata-Ciudad de Almería" Exhibition and Congress Center, maritime surveillance, helicopters was provided by the National Police in 2024 and 2025.
Music review
"Based on the lineup, genre diversity at Dreambeach 2025 was fairly comprehensive, with broad coverage across most major dance music genres: drum and bass (Sub Focus, Dimension), house (Marco Carola, Seth Troxler, Fatboy Slim), bass (Subtronics, Hol!, Space Laces), and techno (Amelie Lens, Indira Paganotto, Anfisa Letyago). Despite this, the schedule distribution of these genres was slightly inconsistent; for instance, the first two days of the festival featured ARTCORE and EXHALE, respectively, but there was little techno on day three." Dreambeach 2025 was a well-run event that featured strong techno, house, and bass acts, the programming lacked musical coherence, with questionable headliner choices like Steve Aoki and Will Smith that felt more like celebrity bookings than legitimate electronic music curation". Background on the Retamar site.
The Retamar, Almeria festival site for 2024 and 2025 was controversial. At Retamar, local residents formed a pressure group called 'No al Dreambeach en El Toyo' (No to Dreambeach in El Toyo), generating much media coverage as they expressed their strong opposition to the site. More>
