Option 1: For the History and Nature lovers
Choose this option if you are up for an aventure and want to get your steps in. Visiting some of Gibraltar´s most historical and natural landmarks, embarking on an adventure up the Rock to briefly finish your day getting some sea air.
Start your day at Market´s place Bus Station (9:00)
Your ticket to the Nature Reserve can be purchased online and at multiple physical ticket office points. It costs 30 pounds for adults and 22 pounds for children. You can walk up, but you will need more time, so for this trip we recommend starting at the Market´s Place bus station office where you can purchase your ticket and for 10 pound more, be driven up and down again in a mini-bus. This does not include being driven around from landmark to landmark- for this option book a private rock tour or mini- bus company.
Southeast of the Rock: St Michael’s Cave (09:45–11:15)
Begin your visit inside St Michael’s Cave, one of Gibraltar’s most striking natural formations. The cave’s chambers and lighting displays provide a dramatic introduction to Upper Rock. If you are lucky, you will pprobably get to meet some Barbary Macaques who like to hang just outside. After exiting the cave, take time to explore the surrounding Nature Reserve, visit closeby landmarks and viewpoints such as O´Haras Battery. Even a short walk offers panoramic views over the Mediterranean, the Strait of Gibraltar and the Spanish coastline.
Mediterranean Steps (11:15–11:45)
The Mediterranean Steps are one of Gibraltar’s most celebrated walking routes. This steep cliffside path offers exceptional views, but it is physically demanding and for and can take up to two hours to complete. For a half‑day itinerary, walk only the most scenic section. This provides dramatic vistas without committing to the full ascent.
Descent to Town (11:45–12:15)
To descend you can catch the mini-bus which will take you back to your starting point in the town centre or use one of the trails which will lead you back to town. The walking descent provides additional viewpoints and is not as tough as walking up, creating a gradual transition back into Gibraltar’s urban area.
Europa Point or Catalan Bay (12:15–13:30)
Choose one final stop to conclude your trip.
Europa Point
Gibraltar’s southernmost tip, offering views across the Strait toward Morocco, the Trinity Lighthouse and the meeting point of the Atlantic and Mediterranean. Stroll along Europa Point promenade as you take in the sea views and dramatic cliffs. Explore the small museum to learn a bit more about Gibraltar´s history or stand at Harding´s Observation Post for some birdwatching. Take bus route 2 from Market´s Place Bus Station to the end of the bus route( buy a return ticket), it will take you around 20 minutes.
Catalan Bay (Caleta)
Visit another side of Gibraltar, a colourful fishing village and sandy beach on the east side, ideal for visitors who prefer a coastal finish and if hot enough a dip in the sea. Catch bus number 8 from Market´s Place Bus Station to William´s Way and walk 5 minutes to the beach or if you have the energy, the full walk could take you around half an hour. Read more >
