Isla Canela Golf Course
Course Info |
• Holes - 18 |
Isla Canela is a natural island, which is connected by a bridge to Ayamonte. It is situated at the mouth of the river Guadiara on the border with Portugal. There are magnificent sea views taking in the coastal marshland and Atlantic Ocean.
The flat course is easy to walk around without the need for a buggy. It has been designed so the natural sand dunes give shape to the narrow fairways, while the strategically placed palms trees, as well as the eucalyptus and olives, can cause some difficulties.
Seemingly straightforward at first glance, many of the holes have hidden obstacles, especially the 2nd, a par-5 with numerous bunkers and water hazards. Another par-5, the 17th, includes a large lake which determines where the drive and second shot are placed. Particular concentration is needed for the 18th.
The course is 5,937 metres long, flat and suitable for all level of players. The fairways wind around natural sand dunes. Numerous trees, such as orange, olive, eucalyptus and palms, have been added to enhance the character and provide obstacles. Water hazards are provided in the form of naturally occurring lakes and a stream winding onto the course.
Practice facilities include a driving range and golf lessons. At Isla Canela, there is a beach with leisure facilities and a marina.
Address: Ctra. de la Playa, s/n. 21409 Ayamonte, Huelva.
Directions: going from Ayamonte take the national 431 highway towards Portugal and the Carretera de la Playa. Map
