Miguel Angel Jimenez

Fifth of seven brothers, Miguel Ángel left school at 15 and worked in a garage and then at Torrequebrada Golf Club collecting golf balls on the driving range and as a caddie. After watching his idol Seve Ballesteros in the Spanish Open at Torrequebrada in 1979, Miguel Ángel was inspired to take up the game himself, turning professional in 1982.

With 23 Tour victories by the end of 2015 Miguel Ángel holds the record as the Oldest Winner on the European Tour at 50 years and 133 days when he won the Open de Espana in May 2014. In doing so, he beat that same record when he successfully defended the Hong Kong Open for the fourth time in December 2013.

He considers all of his victories as special, but looks on his four Ryder Cup team appearances as the most memorable times of his career. Disappointed to have missed the chance of the Captaincy at the 2016 Ryder Cup in Minnesota, Miguel Ángel would love the opportunity to be a future Captain.

He has always maintained that he owes everything he has to this game he loves so much, and in order to put something back into the sport, from 2007 to 2012 Miguel Ángel promoted the Open de Andalucia, a European Tour tournament staged near his home in Spain.

2014 was a successful year for Miguel Ángel with three victories - in Hong Kong, Spain and in his first Champions Tour event in the USA, at the Greater Gwinnett Championship.

A dream of his was realised in February 2013, when the Miguel Angel Jimenez Golf Academy was opened in Torremolinos was opened.

"I wanted to create a place where children and adults could learn to play golf at an affordable price on the Costa del Sol, and now I am very proud to say we have a superb facility." said Miguel Angel Jiminiez at the time.

When Miguel Angel is in Spain between tours he can be seen practising at the Academy.
