Golf on COSTA DEL SOL and in Andalucia

Andalucia is one of Europe’s foremost golfing destinations, with over 100 courses. The climate, with warm temperatures all year round, and an average of eight hours of sunshine a day, coupled with spectacular courses, often with mountain or sea views, makes this region a hugely popular choice for golfers, mainly from northern Europe.

Malaga and Cadiz provinces, with their long coastlines, have the highest concentration of greens, while there is even a desert course in Almeria. Andalusia has hosted 63 top international men's tournaments (up to 2022). The prestigious Valderrama Course was home to the Ryder Cup in 1997.  and Volvo Andalucia Masters on the European Tour for many years, while held the Volvo World Matchplay for three years.

Between 1966 and 2022, Andalucia has hosted 21 Volvo Masters, 11 Open de Andalucía, 11 Spanish Open, 8 Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters, 3 Volvo World Match Play Championships at Finca Cortesin, 3 World Cups, 2 World Golf Championships at Valderrama Course and four other Open tournaments.

In the same way the Solheim Cup 2023, the women’s team championship between the United States and Europe, will be played at Finca Cortesin.

There are almost 50,000 active golf licences in Andalucia, more than thirteen thousand are women’s,  making golf the leading sport in terms of the number of women's licences in Andalucia. The Women's Committee of the Royal Federation of Golf in Andalucia organises the Andalucian Women's Circuit and an Andalucian Ladies' Trophy to promote the sport.

Quality of courses exist in Almeria and Huelva, providing memorable challenges for all levels of golfing enthusiasts. The provinces of Granada and Sevilla also offer fine courses and services for golfers. The inland provinces of Jaen and Córdoba are not well known as golf destinations.
