San Roque Beaches

San Roque is an unusual municipality in that it has some coastline to the west of La Linea and Gibraltar, where Guadarranque beach and Puente Mayorga are located, and some to the east with Alcaidesa Beach, Sotogrande Beach, Torreguadiaro Beach and Cala Sardina.

Glass and Crystal Museum

Glass and Crystal Museum opened in 2009, has around 700 pieces of glass, dating from Phoenician times to the 20the century. The museum is housed in an 18th-century casa palacio in the centre of Malaga, with spacious patios and gardens, is furnished like a private home, with antique sofas, rugs, mirrors and paintings, and cabinets for the glass.

Routes

From Barbate take the CA2143 to Caños de Meca. This is the principal road through the park and it passes through the Pinar de la Breña. You can stop off this route and go for a walk in the pine forest; at Km 3.5 is a forestry track, the Sendero del Torre de Tajo.

Torre de Calaburras watchtower, Mijas Costa

This tower is also known as Calburra or simply Burras. A document dated 1571 mentions La Cala and the station of Burras (a small military base) but it was not until 1574 when Francisco de Cordoba, Capitan General of the Kingdom of Granada.

Grahame Greene

Jerez de la Frontera - Fascinating Fact 1

The city's name started out as "Xeres" in Roman times (though the Phoenicians were here before them), then became "Sherrish" under its Moorish rulers (giving its name to the fortified wine, finally ending up as "Jerez de la Frontera" in the late 14th century, due to its location on the border of the Muslim and Christian-ruled regions. In Catalan, Italian and French, sherry is still called "Xeres", harking back to the Roman/medieval Castillian word, "Xerez".
