Seville City Archaeological Museum

One of the best museums of its kind in Spain, located in the Maria Luisa Park and originally built as part of the 1929 exhibition. The focus is on the Romans, but there is also a prehistoric section which includes the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age. Later, the Phoenicians, the Greeks and the Carthaginians all traded and settled in what is now the province of Seville.

Isla de Trocadero Natural Area

Within the Bahía de Cádiz Natural Park is this 525ha protected area, noted for its important wetlands which are a site for migrating birds. It also has saltpans. Like the park area, the birdlife is outstanding for its wintering waterfowl and seabirds. The best times to visit are in winter and during migration times.

Malaga History - Cerro del Villar

The ancient settlement of Cerro del Villar was built by Phoenicians around the second quarter of the 8th century BCE on a small sand bar (island) in the wide estuary of the Guadalhorce River. The sand bar is now connected to the southern river bank and alluvial plane.

Jimera de Líbar - Railway Station

Jimera de Libar station is down just down in valley from the hill village of Jimera de Libar.

This station has an alpine feel with the mountains towering behind it.  It is well-maintained, down to the hanging plant pots.

Art Galleries

The two most important are the Museo de Bellas Artes and the Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporaneo. One of the most prestigious of all Spain's Fine Arts Museums, the beautiful Museo de Bellas Artes is a former monastery and has a superb collection of art by Spain's most celebrated painters including Zurbarán, Murillo and Valdás Leal.

El Cañón de las Buitreras Natural Monument

The Cañón de las Buitreras is the strikingly named Gorge of the Vultures, after the colony of griffon vultures that nest in the area. The gorge itself is impressive, with often near-vertical sides at times reaching 200m high. In the bottom of the gorge is the Guadiaro river, which has eroded the limestone rock.

History of Beas de Granada

Beas de Granada’s origin dates back to the time of the Roman Empire. The oldest documentary references place it on the Roman road to Acci (modern-day Guadix). The name is believed to come from the Latin word Viax, meaning road.

Bonsai Museum

The Bonsai museum closed in December 2018. The 25 year lease on the oriental inspired building owned town hall expired in October 2017. The private collection owned by Miguel Angel Caran is seaking a new location.  The building is destined to become a municipal library.

Private Health Clinics

There are a large number of private health clinics in Andalucia. Most towns will have a number of specialist doctors practices or health clinics. The equivalent in the state system is called 'Ambulatorio' or 'Consultorio' even the smallest village will have a consultorio.  Hospitals that patients can stay overnight are found in the larger town and provincial capital cities.

Sinagoga del Agua

The Jewish synagogue was discovered in 2007 by the Crespo-López family. It is a private initiative for the recovery of a building which was camouflaged within the walls of several buildings, where different families led a normal life, without noticing the grandeur of what was hidden within the interior walls of their houses.
