What's the significance of a place name, and how does a name reflect its surroundings?

While the very name 'Marbella' resonates around the world - many will recognise the Hollywood-style road signs dotted around Marbella and neighbouring towns like Estepona and Mijas.

These really are signs of the times. Familiar features on the Costa landscape, international status symbols, a single name summing up an entire district.

Marbella - Rio Real

Rio Real is one of Marbella sought after districts. Located just to the east of the town centre and cantered on the river of the same name and the Rio Real Golf Course which opened in 1965 as part of the Los Monteros developments. 

Facinas

Facinas is a small village in the province of Cadiz with a population of just over 1,000. The community is close-knit, all the local children attend the village state school, and most of the resident families have lived there for generations.

Arab Baths in Granada

The Arab Baths are one of the most important historic and architectural aspects of Granada, as they are symbolic evidence of the city's religious turmoil all those centuries ago. The baths were built by the Muslims because they believed water was a symbol of purity, and so used it to cleanse their bodies, whilst the Christians.

La Térmica

Described as a "cultural epicenter", the Térmica is a central public creative space where local residents and visitors can learn and exchange creative ideas. They can do this through the many exhibitions and regular workshops, lectures and concerts held by the centre.

Plaza de Toros (La Malagueta)

La Malagueta itself was built in 1874, by the architect Joaquín Rucoba. The first fight took place on 11th June 1876, and the matadors who fought were Rafael Molina, Antonio Carmona, Luque El Gordito, and Manuel Rodriguez. A century later in 1976 the site was declared an Historic Artistic Monument, and in 1981, it was declared an Official Site of Cultural Interest.

Palacio Episcopal / Bishops Palace

The Palacio Episcopal houses a small collection of religious paintings and effigies. A permanent exhibition called "Ars Sacra" is part of the patromony of the Malaga province dioceses and has been collected from a number of churches.
