Alicún de Ortega

Alicún de Ortega is a village in the north-east Granada province, situated close to the border with Jaén province. Its natural environment attracts both nature lovers and hikers. Alicun was the setting for the Batalla de Piedras in 1486, when Christian troops defeated the forces of the Nasrid ruler of Granada and recaptured the town, opening the way for the Catholic Monarchs to reconquer the capital.

Alamedilla is a village in Granada province, whose name means "little elm avenue". It is made up of five areas: Alamedilla, La Hacha, Los Oqueales, El Peñón y Rambla de los Lobos. Situated in the region of Hoya de Guadix y Marquesado, Alamedilla has its origins in the Moorish-era hamlets which were bestowed upon noblemen from the north of Spain after the Christian Reconquest.

The Parque Nacional de Doñana is one of Europe's most important wetland reserves and a major site for migrating birds. La Lí­nea de la Concepción

The coastal town of La Línea de la Concepción - more commonly known simply as 'La Línea' (meaning 'boundary line' in Spanish), is often referred to as 'The Gateway to Gibraltar' and as you approach it for the first time, you will soon know why. It forms the boundary between the famous and British territory of Gibraltar and Spain.

The museum, which was opened in 2008, takes you through the history of wine in Malaga province, which is famous for its moscatel, sweet dessert wine. Apart from Jerez's sherries, Malaga's moscatel is probably Andalucia's most famous wine.

Guzman el Bueno

Alonso Perez de Guzman, who famously defended Tarifa from the Moors in the siege of 1294, when he sacrificed his son's life to save the town, and was named El Bueno by the King as a reward. Guzman El Bueno was also given the rights to fish for tuna using the almadraba net system, which helped make his family's fortune in the centuries that followed, and is still used to this day.

The Catholic Reconquest

The Reconquista is the period of the Iberian Peninsula's history between the Battle of Covodonga (c.718), the first victory of Christian military forces since the Islamic Invasion, and the eventual fall of the Islamic kingdom of Granada in 1492.
