Almoraima railway station

Almoraima is the station for Castellar de la Frontera - both the new town nearby and the old town up on the hill. It is located adjacent to the A369 San Roque to Gaucin road.

There is only one train a day in each direction on Mr Henderson's Railway which connects Algeciras and Ronda with the Spanish rail network at Bobadilla for main lines to Granada, Malaga, Cordoba and Madrid.

The station is not manned but tickets can be purchased from the train guard.  Of the three platforms, only the one adjacent to the station building is currently used; it has a level crossing at one end.

HISTORY

The original 1890 station building is occupied at one end along with other more modern station buildings.  The single-storey pitched-roof white building has the traditional Andalucian yellow trim around doors and windows; no artifacts from the late-Victorian Henderson era can be seen.

There used to be another station called 'Castellar', located near to the junction of the A-369 and CA-513. Only the ground works can be seen today.
