Medina Elvira This archaeological site is located at the foot of the southern part of the Sierra Elvira mountain range and occupies a naturally formed amphitheatre facing south. The remains of settlements and fortifications are evident on the Cerro del Sombrerete, as are the remains of domestic units and roads from a neighbourhood on the Cerro de los Cigarrones. The proposed chronology for the structures and materials unearthed in the Sombrerete excavation dates them to the ninth and early tenth centuries. Various structures and ceramic and faunal materials have been unearthed, with some researchers identifying the wall of the first Arab city on the Granada plain here.
