New Hotels on the Costa del Sol
Here are a selection of new opening hotels. In this list we include significant hotels which have either opened as completely new hotels or have undergone major refurbishment.
New Hotel openings projected for opening in 2023 and beyond.
Projected in Seville; Autograph Collection Sevilla, 5-star 95 room 35m€ reform of the former HQ of Banco de Andalucía. Radisson Sevilla, 5-star 89 room reform of the former Corte Inglés and BBRV bank in Plaza de la Magdalena. Only you Sevilla (Palladium Hotel Group), 4-star 241 rooms reform of the former Hotel Ayre.
Projected in Marbella; Las Dunas Club a 5 star W brand hotel with 186 rooms and separate building with 89 tourist apartments and 115 residential apartments located at Duna Real de Zaragoza. Hotel Banús and Exhibition Centre a 250 room 5* hotel. Siete Revueltas Resort a 5* GL with 120 suites, Located in La Chapas district at Arroyo Siete Revueltas at Alicates playa. In October 2018 the Andalucian President laid the foundation stone for developers Fort Partners (Miami), Immobel (Belgium) and the local Villa Padierna Group who would construct a Four Seasons on 600m beachfront west of Torre Rio Real to open in 2022. That date will not be met however in Novemeber 2020 a license for construction of 56 residences as a phase 1 was granted by Marbella Town Hall.
Barceló hotel group plan to open Hotel Adif Cádiz it will be a 4 or 5 star 180 habitaciones hotel. altough announced in 2018 as opening in 2020 it was delayed by need for the Town Hall to reclassify the land which located near the Palacio de Congresos. Barceló are also constructing in Conil de la Frontera (Barceló Conil, 4-star 210 habitaciones, la Fuente del Gallo district Spring 2020.) a 4-star 210 room hotel. Originally announced for Spring 2020.

Hotel Byblos
The iconic Hotel Byblos, opened in 1986 visited by Princess Diana in 1995, has been closed since 2010. It was sold in 2018 to Intriva Capital who have entered into an agreement with Hyatt who will open it as part of their 'The Unbound Collection'. Hyatt's July 2020 announcement expected opening in early 2022. Source

La Equitativa Conversion
The iconic building La Equitativa in Malaga Located between Calle Larios and the Muelle Uno is being turned into two hotels. Work started in June 2019. The base of the building will be an 80 room five-star hotel by 'Only you' (Palladium Hotel Group) whilst the the tower will be a four-star run by Soho Boutique Hotels. Expected to open in 2021.
Ikos Andalucía
The company Ikos Resort has completed refurbishing the former Hotel Princess in Estepona into a beachfront complex with 411 rooms and 11 swimming pools. It is the first luxury resort the group has built in Spain, and will see the seven buildings in the old hotel complex completely refurbished inside and out, with new communal spaces and a development of the rooms up to the standard of a five star hotel. Official opening now put back to April 2021 due to Coronavirus although facilities complete in August 2020.
Club Med Magna Marbella
The former Hotel Don Miguel in Marbella, which was a popular hotel until its closure in 2004, is undergoing major refurbishment by the Magna Hotels and Resorts Group and Club Med. Over €70 million was invested into the project and the re-opening was scheduled for August 2019 then Spring 2020. It still does not have a published opening date and we assume it will now be Spring 2021.
SO/ Sotogrande Resort and Spa (former NH Almenara Sotogrande)
Robert Kmita will be the General Manager of this hotel (anounced 03-12-2020) to open in 2021. Managed by SO/ Hotels and Resorts (formerly Sofitel) is the most avant-garde brand in Accor’s luxury portfolio, this being the first SO/ property in Spain. The former Amenara Hotel was part of the NH group who used to own the Sotogrande estate. It had been closed for refurbishment since late 2018. ‘SO/ Sotogrande Resort and Spa will reflect the brand’s rebellious luxury’. Hotel comprises 151 rooms and 24 suites, large outdoor pool, extensive landscaped gardens, and adjoining Spa. It is adjacent to Almenara Golf Club House.

In a prime city centre location, Palacio Solecio, provides the look and feel of staying a 19th century señorial house featuring traditional central patio. Since only the facade is original, the interiors offer all modern conforts. Opened late 2019.

Formerly known as the 'Double Tree', the Higueron Hotel Malaga, Curio Collection by Hilton has reopened after a 22 million euro investment. It features a stunning rooftop infinity pool with panoramic views of the mountains and the sea. Located in Fuengirola, it offers a spa, fitness centre, and 3 outdoor swimming pools. The Higueron Hotel Malaga is home to the Michelin starred restaurant Sollo.

What was once Las Pirámides hotel has undergone a complete transformation and reopened after a 15 million euro investment by the new owners, the Barceló chain. Occidental Fuengirola is located right in front of the sea, close to various golf courses and only a short distance from some of the most interesting cities of Andalucia. Fuengirola town centre is just 500 metres away along the beachfront promenade.
New Hotels in 2018

Nobu Hotel Marbella is set in Marbella. Each accommodation at the 5-star hotel has views to the resort's Plaza square , and guests can enjoy access to an outdoor swimming, a fitness centre and La Suite night club. Plaza de los Naranjos is reachable within 3.6 km and the nearest beach is 500 metres away.

The luxurious Gran Hotel Miramar is set in a listed XX century building and is located in Malaga, 10 metres from La Malagueta Beach. This beachfront hotel has a spa centre and a seasonal pool. Featuring views of the beach, the garden, or the city, the elegant rooms at this hotel are all air conditioned and well equipped.
