Parks and Gardens

There are a number of beautifully landscaped and enjoyable public parks in Estepona.

Plaza de las Flores

Traditional square in the centre of the old town where you can sit on one of the many benches or at an outside café and watch the world go by.

Seafront Promenade

The Paseo Maritimo runs the full length of La Rada, and separates the beach from the town. Much of this has recently been attractively landscaped with lofty palm trees and an exotic variety of cacti.

PUNTO DONCELA LIGHTHOUSE GARDENS

Surrounding land belonging to the Malaga Port Authority was ceded to Estepona Town Council in 2012 and a boardwalk pathway with four viewpoints and interesting gardens were created. There is ample seating on the boadwalks and within the landscaped gardens are a large variety of plants and shrubs, each one has a small plaque giving botanical information. The gardens were not maintained and admid a legal dispute the park was closed in 2017. More about the lighthouse and its gardens.

Orchid House Park

There is a small neat park inforn of the Orchid House of Estepona which is unfensed and open at all times.  More about the Orchid house.

Parque de los Niños

This park constructed in 2013 is located in the Avenida del Mar are located inland from the port. The areas is also called Las Mesas and a gym complex with café has also been constructed nearby. The park extends 25.000 m2. It has an separate area reserved as a dog park or canine park. From the port of the bullring, take Avenida del Mar and on the left at the roundabout Calle Eslovaquia.

Parque del Seghers

A small park to the west of the port near the local police station.  It is next to the urbanization Seghers on the mountain side of the coast road.   The 1960's historic Seghers club which once stood on the seafront plot closed in 1989 and later demolished is still unused.

Parque Huerta Nueva

The Huerta Nueva Park is a small green park within the new development area west of the city centre. The is a children's playground. It is near Parque del Carmen. It is located off Calle Cristobal Ruiz Mendes opposite the 'Old fire station' which is now a modern squash court.   

Parque del Carmen

Small park near Huerta Nueva with a small two level lake with various fountains and interesting waterfall that drops as a wall of water from the roof of a park building. Furthermore, you can walk behind the wall of water which is particularly refreshing on a hot summer day.   Unfortunately, the waterfall in not always functioning. Located next to Calle Guadiaro. There are a number of good bars an restaurants in the vicinity on Calle Manuael Navarro Mollor.  

Parque La Constitucion

Parque la Constitucion is a little known triangular park constructed to the east of Avenida Juan Carlos. Despite been near a busy road it is little hidden away and always a pleasant surprise to those that stumble upon it.   Parque la Constitucion is well laid out with ample paths that circle a large fountain with a upward spout that follows a rhythm up and down. There are also a number of old trees. There are  number of interesting botanical plants and also a number of herbs such including insense, Oregon, Rosemary. There are plenty of benches to sit in the shade and listen to the water from the large fountain. The park includes a small children's play area and an art work consisting of a frame of rusting iron letters.

Parque del Calvario

Glorious Cascading Wisteria in Parque del Calvario, of Avenida de Andalucia, Estepona. this quiet park has a lake and a childrens playground. It is located next to Calle Calvario which leads up the the chapel. In the spring the glorious cascading wisteria is in full bloom. Bench seats are provided under the shade of the Wisteria.

Selwo Park

Selwo is a fascinating adventure in contact with nature. The park covers 100 hectares and is home to more than 2,000 animals from the five continents. The animals live in liberty, recreating their natural habitat - you can see lions, rhinos and giraffes; gnus, cheetahs, red pandas, meekats, and the endangered Iberian lynx; also birds such as hornbill, ibis, stork and crane. Visitors are taken on a four-hour tour, on foot and in four-wheel drive trucks. Also other activities: camel rides, archery, an elastic jumper, and a 116m zip-wire. More>

Los Pedregales Park

(5km inland from the town on the road to Casares which leaves the town by the industrial estate) Log cabins can be rented in the park, providing an ideal base from which to explore the beautiful countryside above Estepona. The park is popular with locals on Sundays during the winter months. There are permanent picnic tables and barbeque areas. At the centre of the park is the Chapel of San Isidro. Sierra Bermeja

The Sierra Bermeja mountain (1.449m) dominates the landscape behind Estepona. There are few places in the world where a mountain reaches this height so close to the sea (10km) You can drive to near the top from estepona in under an hour. Take the road (Caratera Genalguacil) (MA-8301) signposted Genalguacil from the traffic lights on the Estepona inner bypass (Avda de Andalucia), near the Mercadona supermarket. Read more
