Inside Jaen´s impressive Renaissance cathedral, behind the high altar, is a much-prized religious artifact: a cloth said to have been used by St Veronica to wipe Christ´s face as he carried the cross to Golgotha. The lienzo del Santo Rostro (cloth of the Holy Face) has an image of his countenance, allegedly, and is housed in its own chapel.

Alboloduy

Alboloduy has housed settlements dating as far back as the Neolithic and Bronze Ages. Today, its main economic activity lies in the production of grain, olives, oranges, wine, flour, olive oil and straw. The Nacimiento River runs through the town and the Barranco de los Catalanes and the Rambla de los Yesos are among its highlights.

Alambique

Dating back to the early twentieth century, the Alambique was built by the Espadafor family and later became municipal property, now housing the Pinos Puente Youth Centre.

Mazagón

Mazagón is a low-level resort with a choice of excellent beaches,and is less developed than the next seaside town, Matalascañas. One of Mazagón's best beaches is situated 6km east of Matalascañas, by the Parador Cristóbal Colón. Unusually for this stretch of coast, where beaches are generally more open and exposed, this beach is backed by sandstone cliffs.

Turrillas

Turrillas is situated next to the Parque Natural de Sierra Alhamilla, one of the most beautiful protected areas in Andalucía. At the entrance to Turrillas, close to the small chapel dedicated to San Antonio, is an amazing viewpoint where visitors can soak up the striking landscapes. The town has about 240 inhabitants.

Jabalquinto

The village of Jabalquinto has been occupied since the Copper Age or Bronze Age and in the Roman era was thought to be the scene of a Battle Baecula in 208BC as part of the Second Punic War between Rome and carthage.

Ermita Virgen de la Cabeza

The chapel is situated on Cerro de la Virgen de la Cabeza. To reach it, you have to climb about 500 metres. There are two chapels here — one older and one newer, built in 1992 to welcome more pilgrims.

Punta Umbría

Punta Umbría is the closest beach to Huelva City and is the most popular resort along the Huelva Costa de la Luz. During July and August it is overflowing with Spanish visitors and it is worth booking accommodation in advance at this time. It sits on the banks of the Río Odiel river estuary and is surrounded by extensive salt marshes, which make up the El Paraje Natural Marismas del Odiel, the most important nature reserve in the area after the Parque Nacional Coto Donaña. It has about 14, 900 inhabitants.

Gardens in Cadiz

In the ancient walled City of Cadiz, the gardens to visit are the Parque Genoves and the Alameda Apodaca, a large avenue laid out with gardens with sections in the romantic style. In the oldest part of town there are also beautiful patios. In the Faculty of Medicine there is a remarkable specimen of a Dragon Tree (Dracaena draco).
