Ugíjar

Ugíjar consists of five areas: Ugíjar, Cherín, Jorairátar, Los Montoros and Las Canteras. Granada poet Pedro Antonio de Alarcón once described Ugíjar as “aristocrática” (aristocratic). In Ugíjar, tourists can visit various buildings of historical and artistic interest, including Iglesia de la Virgen del Martirio, constructed in the 16th century in a typical mudéjar style.

History of Cabra del Santo Cristo

Human presence in this area dates back to the Bronze Age, evident from a series of remains discovered in the Sierra de Cabra. During the Iberian era, the region formed part of a commercial route linking Granada with the Guadalquivir Valley. In the Hispano-Muslim period, a citadel was erected on the Cerro de San Juan. Some historians suggest it could be the Bagtawira fortress, belonging to a significant family that rebelled against the Umayyads at the close of the ninth and the beginning of the tenth century.

Many hotel rooms in Arcos have magnificent views; some of the best are rooms and terrace from the Parador and the rooftop terrace at La Casa Grande. Hotels in the old town offer a magnificent location for walking around and taking in the village atmosphere, however parking can be challenging. There is limited parking in Plaza del Cabildo, or better at in the underground car park, at the entrance of the old town near Plaza de Espana access from Paseo de Andalucia.

Huélago

Huélago is a village in Granada province located at more than 990m altitude. It has various monuments worth visiting including Cortijo de Preafán, the parish church and the remains of a Nazarí tower.

Casa Rosa

Casa Rosa is a pretty, candy-pink French-style villa with magnificent gardens at the far end of Parque Maria Luisa. The house was part of the vast estate of Palacio San Telmo, which was occupied in the second half of the 19th century by the Duke and Duchess of Montpensier.

Rockin’ Race Jamboree 2025

This festival which celebrates its 31st edition in 2025 features about 40 rockabilly, blues, surf, and boogie-woogie bands from Europe, and USA. Took place 5-9th February 2025 in several venues in Torremolinos including the Principe de Asturias auditorium, the Hotel Barracuda and Plaza del Remo.
