Cogollos de Guadix

Cogollos de Guadix is a small village with wide streets and three large squares bordering on the Sierra Nevada National Park, a true delight for the visitors, with breath-taking views of the Marquesado del Cenere and a large part of the Hoya de Guadix. The main monument in Cogollos de Guadix is the Church, the Iglesia de la Anunciacion, declared a place of cultural interest.

Hinojales

Hinojales is located within the Sierra de Aracena and Picos de Aroche Natural Park, in the far north of the province, west of Cañaveral de León. It is situated within limits of villages in Badajoz (Extremadura, the region north of Andalucia) and has approximately 392 inhabitants.

Desfiladero de Puerta Arenas

The gorge sits on the border of Campillo, Cárcheles and Cambil. Caused by fluvial erosion, the limestone wall is approximately 400m high. Between the 1970s and 80s, the construction of the Bailen-Motril highway transformed the area of Puerta de Arenas, opening a new tunnel in the rock as well as a bridge over the river. This modified the landscape and offered improved communication routes. Visitors can also find a recreational area which allows for bird watching and hiking and features a botanical garden and picnic area.

Main sights

The old medieval town of Rota has some fine monuments that visitors should make time to see. The Castillo de Luna is in calle Cuna, 2. This magnificent building is the official emblem of the town. It also houses the town hall and tourist office. It was erected on the remains of a Moorish castle after the Christian conquest of the town in the 13th century.

Silk painter in Seville - Silvia Ramos López

Trained as a chemist, Silvia has been painting silk for around 25 years. What started as a hobby is now her full-time job and she sells her hand-painted silk fans and scarves in her shop-cum-workshop in central Seville, close to the Setas (Metropol Parasol). The Cadiz native’s stunning designs, in bright colours and bold shapes, are inspired by nature, although she also does paintings and even makes fans for members of Semana Santa brotherhoods – both women and men

The Lecrín Valley

This area or Comarca encompases the upper part of a picturesque deep valley south of Granada city and west of the Sierra Nevada. This valley comprises many small tributaries that flow into the Embalse de Béznar. Within the valley or more correctly valleys are numerious small villages , which, in some cases, have less than 200 residents. These are tranquil and unspoilt destinations for nature and outdoor sports such as walking, hiking and fishing.

Guzman el Bueno

Alonso Perez de Guzman, who famously defended Tarifa from the Moors in the siege of 1294, when he sacrificed his son's life to save the town, and was named El Bueno by the King as a reward. Guzman El Bueno was also given the rights to fish for tuna using the almadraba net system, which helped make his family's fortune in the centuries that followed, and is still used to this day.

Semana Santa in Malaga with Antonio Banderas

Málaga's Holy Week celebrations were declared to be of interest to International Tourism in 1965 and they have also obtained the regional stamp of approval "Fiesta of National Interest". Thousands of visitors from across Spain and abroad come to follow the processions throughout the city's historic centre.

Las Cabezas de San Juan

Las Cabezas de San Juan overlooks the Guadalquivir wetlands and the Doñana Natural Park to the east. The town was the scene for the 1820 rebellion, led by General Riego, against Fernando VII's monarchy. Just outside Las Cabezas de San Juan is the luxurious Hacienda de San Rafael, a former olive farm with a beautiful patio filled with bright bougainvillaea (please see our accommodation section).

Alcóntar

Alcóntar is the source of the Almanzora River and its surrounding geographical features make for one of the most naturally beautiful landscapes in the area. The main economic activities of the town are the production of almonds and cold meats and the dry curing of ham. The town also benefits from a natural water spring of great quality. It has about around inhabitants.
