“Casa Alpujarreña” Museum

Montejaque

As in all the pueblos blancos, Montejaque dates from the time of the Berber settlers, after the Moslem conquest. Located in a semi-hidden bowl hidden by circular rocky outcrops, it overlooks a small fertile valley of olive groves.

Nívar

Nívar is a great destination for lovers of rural tourism, sports or photography. It forms part of the  Sierra de Huétor Natural Park and due to its 1000m height above sea level, it offers amazing views over Peñón de la Mata, Cogollos de la Vega and Granada City.

Bubión sits halfway between Capileira and Pampaneira in the Poqueira gorge, surrounded by magnificent views of the often, snow-capped Sierra Nevada peaks and the Alpujarras.

History

The earliest recorded data on Bubión was collected by Hernando de Jorquera and dates back to the time of the Goths, although the first organised colony was Roman and almost all of its inhabitants were involved in mining.

Jimera de Líbar

Jimera de Líbar is an excellent destination for anyone wishing to enjoy the wonders of rural tourism in Andalucia. This town is one of the white villages in the Ronda mountains (Serranía de Ronda). It is nestled in the Guadiaro Valley right across from the Líbar mountain range and – best of all – it is inside the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park.

Ronda

Despite being a growing town, Ronda retains much of its historic charm, particularly its old town. It is famous worldwide for its dramatic escarpments and views, and for the deep El Tajo gorge that carries the rio Guadalevín through its centre. Visitors make a beeline for the 18th century Puente Nuevo 'new' bridge, which straddles the 100m chasm below, before taking in the views from the Alameda out over the Serranía de Ronda mountains.

Iglesia Santa María la Mayor

Dating to the sixteenth century, the church has undergone several modifications and restorations. The main nave's configuration corresponds to the original design, with the apse and two side naves being added later.

FESTIVALS

Popular festivals in Murtas are Fiestas de la Santa Cruz, Corpus Christi, Semana Cultural, Fiestas de San Miguel and Fiestas de San Fernando.
