Museo Arqueológico de Frigiliana

The Archaeological Museum of Frigliana is closed (July 2021) while works are underway to move it into a new building.

The Archaeological Museum of Frigliana (MAF) was located in the building called 'Apero' which dates back to the 17th-century and was once a mule driven suger mill. The house has been restored and contains a library, exhibition rooms and the Tourist office.

The museums collection is made up of 125 pieces corresponding to the Neolithic right throught to the 19th century. Many pieces were discovered in nearby archaeological sites such as the Cueva de los Murciélagos, the Higuerón river, the Cerrillo de las Sombras, the Lízar Castle, the Peñón del Fuerte.

Notable pieces in the collection are a skull of a child dating between 4.000 and 5.000 years BC, amphoras, remains found in the area from the battle of the Peñón de Frigiliana, coins from the Caliphate era.

Winter: From 16 September to 30 June
Monday to Friday: 10:00 to 18:00 hrs.
Saturday 10:00 to 14:00 hrs and 16:00 to 20:00 hrs
Sundays 10:00 to 14:00 hrs

Summer: From 1 July to 15 September
Monday to Saturday: 10:00 to 14.30 and 17.30 to 21:00 hrs.
Sundays 10:00 to 14:30 hrs
