Purchena

Purchena is known by many as the “Pearl of the Almanzora” for its fascinating cultural tourism. It has around 1,600 inhabitants. Copper Age settlements known as Churuletes and various Roman villas have been found in the Onegas area. Purchena was the capital of the Almanzora River during the Al-Andalus period and was founded, according to the chronicles, by the last Emir of Córdoba, Abdalah.

Concrete mile posts

You may have noticed old concrete milestones by the side of Andalucian roads - local and national, not motorways. While most of these were replaced long ago by painted metal signs, a few still remain, reminders of a bygone age of road travel.

Southern Hills

South of Cordoba, the N331 threads its way through the undulating fields known as La Campiña, dominated by vineyards and vast olive groves. Surrounded by vineyards, Montilla is famous for its excellent wine of the same name; visit one of its bodegas to try it for yourself. Ten kilometres south of Montilla is Aguilar de la Frontera, worth a stop to see its unusual octagonal square.

Sherry Golf Jerez

Sherry and Golf, what an evocative combination they make, and now the name has become reality in the form of The Sherry Golf Complex. Situated just 1.5 kilometres south of the lovely town of Jerez, on the Autovia A-1V. Golf Sherry is typical of the modern American style of courses, wide fairways, big greens and lots of water.

Costa del Sol - Getting Around

It's quite easy to get around the Costa del Sol as the A-7 (old N-340) ties the coast together from one end to the other.  The AP-7 is a toll motorway running slightly further inland. This makes traveling by car especially easy. Only during rush hours and peak months - June to August - and important holidays, does this road suffer tail backs in certain, key areas. Usually around Malaga city, around Fuengirola and around Puerto Banus.

Instinción

Instinción is a former Arabic village situated on the south bank of the Andarax River, midway along its course. It has about 450 inhabitants. The name Instinción is believed to be of Latin origin, dating from the time of Augustus, in Romanized Hispania. However, is has also been argued that Instinción was the name of a Muslim Princess from the Nasrid family.

Treasure Hunt

Andalucia.com, the most highly visited and longest established website about southern Spain, celebrated its 20th anniversary on 17th April 2016. The anniversary was marked by a Media day with a 'Treasure Hunt' in Estepona and Casares. This is the treasure hunt through the the old town of Estepona, which was created to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Andalucia.com

Museo Etnográfico

The Albuñán Ethnographic Museum contains numerous antique pieces that evoke the history and cultural traditions of the town.

Moguer

Moguer is situated north of Palos de la Frontera and is still very much one of the three significant places in the history of Christopher Columbus and the discovery of America. It has about 21,300 inhabitants.

Furniture

The sturdy, rustic, traditional Andalucian furniture, is slowly disappearing, while today's cabinet makers are now producing more stylish, luxurious and ornamental pieces. The two styles are currently produced throughout the region, as well as classic types of furniture. Local techniques and woods give these pieces their own unique personality.

María

María forms part of the Parque Natural Sierra de María-Los Vélez and is one of the area’s greatest attractions. It has an interesting archaeological heritage, especially present in the cave paintings in Cueva de Haza and the Iberian population at El Pasico. It has about 1200 inhabitants.

Zalamea la Real

Zalamea la Real is situated in El Andevalo and sits very east on the border of the province of Huelva. Legend has it that it was founded by those coming from the East such as Salomea, daughter of King Solomon. The word in Arabic means peaceful and healthy and the Christians later hispanicised to form its current name. It has 3,232 inhabitants.

Marinaleda

Marinaleda is primarily an agricultural village, primarily dedicated to olives and producing olive oil. However it is better known for its social experience based on a left-wing ideology of led by Juan Manuel Sanchez Gordillo. It has about 2,700 inhabitants.
