Hotels

Located just off the main coast road between Almeria and Malaga where the N325 turns inland for Granada, Motril is the largest town on the Costa Tropical with over 50,000 residents. Motril is not an exclusive area and can cater for all accommodation requirements from hotels and apartments to hostals with views to the mountains in Sierra Nevada or out to sea across the Mediterranean.

Nagüeles Park

This is a natural park located right at the foot of the Sierra Blanca mountain at the urbanisation Marbella Sierra Blanca, next to the School. It has picnic tables and plenty of shade to enjoy a delightful day out in the country. It has a well equipped barbecue area with tables and cooking facilities.

EU Driving Licences

EU citizens are allowed to use their home country drivers' licenses while on holidays in Spain, residents have two options. Once you become a resident in Spain, you can head to your provincial traffic headquarters and apply for a new Spanish version (at a cost of 26 euros) or you can continue driving with your EU license.

Casa de las Torres

The house is a remarkable building that owes its name to the strong towers of its main façade, a great sample of Plateresque composition from the year 1520. Originally a medieval palace, built by Constable Ruy López Dávalos, it has undergone various changes in its construction over the centuries. /p>

Los Gallardos - History

The town finds its origin in the beginning of the mining operations of the Sierra Almagrera in the early nineteenth century, when there was a significant increase in the population of the area as it gradually became the most important of the Bédar jurisdiction, to which it belonged until August 1924.

Necrópolis Megalítica

A very extensive megalithic necropolis near the confluence of the Fardes and Guadix Rivers. These megaliths vary in shape and size, with approximately 15 tombs.

Manuel Torre

Manuel Soto Loreto was born in 1878 in Jerez de la Frontera, in the surroundings of the cattle ranches and vineyards where his parents worked. He would frequent the areas of the Barrio Santiago and San Miguelin Jerez, where he would absorb the flamenco styles of Enrique el Mellizo and other great masters of that era.

Cordoba city makes up part of Andalucia's Golden Triangle due to its' world heritage status and stunning Moorish architecture, beautifully demonstrated through the spectacular Islamic Mezquita (mosque) of Cordoba. Most accommodation is conveniently located in the city centre with quick and easy access on foot to the Mezquita, Alcazar or one of the many great museums.

Stroll around

Head for Plaza de España the main square. The square has improved greatly in the last few years for the point of view of a tourist in that it now has pavement cafés which is most welcoming. The neoclasical four spout Carlos III fountain has brought fresh water to this village square since 1785 and sits in the centre.

Pozo Alcón

Pozo Alcón belonged to the city of Úbeda until 1564, at which time it became part of Quesada, from which it later became independent in 1648 when Felipe IV granted it the title of Villa. One of its most beautiful places is the reservoir, where the locals go to cool off in the hottest months of the summer. It has about 4700 inhabitants.

Michelle Obama

Michelle Obama and her daughter Sasha, were on vacation in Andalucia residing at the luxurious five star Hotel Villa Padierna, in the municipality of Benahavís near Estepona and Marbella. (Update: Ritz Carlton stopped managing this hotel shortly after the Michelle Obama visit. Michelle Obama party stayed in Villa 603 of the hotel since named Villa Obama.)

Cúllar - Tarifa

Tarifa is a small farming hamlet in the municipal district of Cúllar in the comarca of Baza. It sits on the Plateau of Chirivel, in the ‘High Plains’ (Altiplano) of Granada. It is located 500m south of the A-92N motorway (junction km 76 from Guadix, or km 372 from Seville). It has a tiny population of about 15. It should not be confused with the busy surfing town of Tarifa in the Cadiz province.
