Archivo Histórico Provincial de Jaén

The old University of Santo Domingo de Jaén, also known as the Old Royal Convent and University of Santa Catalina Mártir de Padres Dominicos, Old Royal Convent of Santo Domingo-University of Santa Catalina Mártir, or Colegio de Santo Domingo, is founded on a Moorish palace that was once owned by the governors of the Cora de Jaén, and ceded by King Juan I to the friars of the Order of Preachers in 1382.

Tarifa - Festivals

The two main traditional festivals of Tarifa are the Summer Feria and the Romeria de la virgin de la Sanctuario de la Luz, Cabalgata Reyes Magos, (Three Kings) procession is celebrated on the evening of 5 January.

Intenational train services

International trains from France terminate at either Barcelona or Madrid. The overnight sleeper trains from France were discontinued in December 2013 and replaced by high speed day trains. From there you can also travel on Renfe trains between some of the main provincial capitals on the and medium-distance trains in Andalucia, and to some of the smaller villages as well.

Abantal restaurant Seville

Abantal Michelin one-star restaurant is located just outside the historic centre of Seville and offers delightful, innovative gastronomic dishes created by chef Julio Fernández Quintero. The restaurant itself seats 28 diners at a time, but can accomodate up to 55 for group bookings and special events planned in advance.

Botanical Garden

The hothouse has 130 plant species from the Canary Islands, divided into three areas by climate: moist such as geranium; desert plants, such as spiny and succulent (cacti and aloes); and a diverse group which includes ferns and Cycads (palms and ferns), as well as many native Spanish plants, also found in the Andalucian mountains and the Balearic islands.

La Herradura Beaches

Impressive large (2km) bay sheltered and dominated by two large headlands. The beach is supported by a typically Spanish town which started out as a fishing village. Popular with the young and old alike, La Herradura is a bastion of national tourism, and is a popular summer retreat for residents of Granada city. It is less well-known among non-Spanish visitors.

Saleres

Saleres is one of three villages that were joined together in 1976 to be part of a single municipality called El Valle. The other two were Restábal and Melegís. Restábal being the larger and the centrally located became the 'capital' where the town hall office is located.

Barbate Beaches

The municipality of Barbate boasts some of the most beautiful beaches on the Costa de la Luz inlcuding los Caños de Meca and Zahara de los Atunes. The golden sand of Playa de Zahora stretches from Playa del Palmar to the Trafalgar lighthouse at the Cabo Trafalgar. The beach is flat and rocky but protected from the strong winds in this area making it popular with those who enjoy swimming in the sea.
