Los Barrios railway station

This little railway station, a few km from the town, is located in a district know as Puente Romana is close the A7 and A381 interchange. It is now almost forgotten and only has one train stopping a day in each direction on Mr Henderson's Railway which connects Ronda with the Spanish rail network at Bobadilla for main lines to Granada, Malaga, Cordoba and Madrid.

HISTORY

The original 1890 station building can be seen, though it is kept locked up. The single-storey pitched-roof white building has Andalucian yellow trim around the doors and windows, and is in good condition. No Henderson artifacts can be seen. A wood-fringed platform canopy, supported on wrought-iron pillars spanning the adjacent platform, lends the station an ‘anglo', or some would say colonial Indian, look. Around the building a local family tends an allotment with lemon trees, vines, and green vegetables.
