How to get to Sierra Nevada Ski Resort
The Sierra Nevada ski resort is easily accessible from both Granada or Málaga provinces. From Granada, it is 45 minutes by car or bus from Granada´s Estacion de Autobuses just south-east of Granada city. Sierra Nevada ski resort is about one hour's drive from Granada Airport. If you're coming from Málaga airport, the ski station is about two hours' drive. Follow directions first to Granada and then, from the western by-pass (GR-30), look out for the brown background signs saying "Sierra Nevada". It is possible to drive up the mountain road to the resort village of Pradollano all year round. The road is always kept open, although occasionally after heavy snow falls snow-chains are required, which can be purchased in local petrol stations.
When you arrive at the Sierra Nevada ski resort
After climbing the interesting mountain road (A-395) from Granada, you suddenly reach the resort at Pradollano. At the roundabout with the yellow vintage snow plough, you are confronted with confusing signs for bi-directional lanes, as used at urban entry points and on major bridges with heavy traffic (green arrows and red crosses, see above). This is the entrance to the multistorey car park, Parking Andalucia. If you are visiting for the day, you are well advised to park here (about 10€ for 6hrs and 20€ for 24 hrs) as there is no street parking in the resort. If you have accommodation booked, check first if it is located in the Alta, Media or Baja zones of Pradollano. If Baja, continue into Parking Andalucia.
If your accomodation is located in the Alta or Media zones, you have come too far and need to carefully turn round at this roundabout, go back a couple of kilometers to the roundabout with the two vintage cable cars, and fork right up the A-395. After 500m turn right, and back on yourself for the Media or Alta zones. After 500m you reach another roundabout (Google map link); first exit to descend (Calle de la Virgen de las Nieves) into Zona Media; second exit to climb (Calle de la Fuente de Tesoro) to Zona Alta
.Taking the third exit back on yourself leads to free, open-air Parking Las Sabinas. This also caters for campervans (autocaravanas), with electric and water hook up. Continue up Calle del Torcal to reach the highest part of Pradollano and open-air Parking Los Peñones, which is 12€ per day.
There is some metered street parking in Zona Alta: look out for the red painted lines on the road. Cost of metered parking is 1€ per hour, max 8 hrs, payable (by cash or card) between 08.00 and 20.00. If you arrive at 16.00 and are lucky enough to find a space, 8€ will last til 12.00 the next day.
