Plaza de las Flores has had a number of names over the years, beginning as Plaza Real, it became in turn Plaza de la Constitución, Plaza de José Antonio and finally (at least for now), Plaza de Las Flores. They were great times for the makers of street signs. Somewhere along the way it was also known briefly as Plaza de Abastos (Provisions Square), where the markets alternated with bullfights.

The tower is named after the Guadalmansa river which runs close by. In common with the majority of such towers, its one entrance is high up on its side and the only method of entrance and exit would have been by ladder or rope. Most of the towers along the coast are mediaeval and post-date the Christian reconquest.

This 2km beach is bounded at the west by the Torre de la Sal headland and runs to the next headland at Bahia Dorada; it is about 40m wide. Not overly busy, this is mainly used by the residents of the urbanizations that straddle of the coast road.

Estepona like so many villages in Southern Spain was fought over by the moors and the Christians until it was finally captured by the Enrique IV of Castile in 1457. He ordered the building of a church on the site of the old Mosque. The church was completed around 1473. it is the oldest ecclesiastical building on the Costa del Sol, but today only the clock tower survives. In the 18th Century a neo-classical dome was added.

In Estepona various tools have been found made from local flint or quartzite using methods attributed to the Neanderthal era. Since we know the now-extinct Neanderthals lived in Gorham's cave in Gibraltar it raises the possibility that 30,000 years ago they were the first human (or at least humans' relatives) inhabitants of Estepona. These tools have been found in the Corominas and at Arroyo Vaquero.

Most of the shops are situated in the town centre on Calle Real or Calle Terraza. There is a wide variety, including boutiques, souvenir shops, delicatessens, stationers and bakeries. Laguna Village.

There are about 100 different watchtowers (Torre Vigia or Torre Atalaya or Torre Almenara) along the coast of Southern Spain. Some are of Moorish origins others from date from the later Christian re-conquest period. All with the purpose of looking out for invaders from the South. They have lasted the centuries with remarkable strength.

There are several car rental companies in Estepona, conveniently located in the town centre and car hire agents in Estepona Port. Additionally, many car rental providers based at Málaga Airport offer a delivery and collection service in Estepona.

The hermitage building was built at the beginning of the nineteenth century, with records dating back to 1829. It is believed that this hermitage was at first constructed for lepers who were encouraged to reside out of town. Since 1875, however, the site was established as a sacred building. The original building was distroyed in the Civil War in May 1936 and the present structure rebuilt after the Civil War.

Estepona has several small museums devoted to its history and culture as as an agricultural town: Bullring, three of the museums are located in the Bullring oposite the entrance to the port (access via Calle Matias Prats), They share the same entrance. Park the car in the underground car park under the seafront promenade and walk through to the pedestrianised Calle Real. Where this road crosses Calle Terraza is a good starting point. Have a look at the shops on Calle Terraza and pedestrianised Calle Real, and stop in at one of the traditional bars on Calle Caridad for an ice-cold fino (sherry) and tapa. Walk up to the attractive Plaza de las Flores.

Finally above 1000m, the Sierra Bermeja mountain behind Estepona is a protected natural area.

El Pilar districts are situated to the east of Estepona town and located on the mountainside for the A-7 coastal highway.
