As well as the typical collections of archaeology, fine art and bullfighting paraphernalia, Cordoba also has some more unusual museums: leather art, patios and torture. The city is famous for its leatherwork, and its most historic technique, guadameci, is an intricate embossed design with gold, silver and coloured paint, unique to Cordoba, which dates back to the 10th century. /p>

Averroes

I have always been especially fond of the great Moorish philosopher Averroes. He was born in Cordoba, then the capital of al-Andalus, in 1126. His real Arabic name was Ibn Rushd Al-Cortobi, or "of Cordoba", and we can admire his statue today, just outside the medieval walls.

Silk painter in Seville - Silvia Ramos López

Trained as a chemist, Silvia has been painting silk for around 25 years. What started as a hobby is now her full-time job and she sells her hand-painted silk fans and scarves in her shop-cum-workshop in central Seville, close to the Setas (Metropol Parasol). The Cadiz native’s stunning designs, in bright colours and bold shapes, are inspired by nature, although she also does paintings and even makes fans for members of Semana Santa brotherhoods – both women and men
