Sunday Lunch

Peal de Becerro

Peal de Becerro Part is situated within the Sierras de Cazorla, Segura y las Villas Natural Park. Populated over the centuries, it preserves remains from the Copper, Bronze, Iberian, Roman and Medieval ages. The Toya burial chamber is the best example of a chamber tomb in the town’s ancient history and was declared a Historical Monument in 1918.

Blas Infante

Blas Infante is known as the "father of Andalucia"having fought for what is today the "Estatuto de Autonomia de Andalucia" (Self-governing statute for Andalucia). Blas Infante Pérez de Vargas was born at 11am 5th July 1885 in the house at 55 Calle Carrera in village of Casares (Malaga).

Venta Quemada - History

The early history of the village stems from its location being near an important Roman road – this is often incorrectly referred to as Via Augusta, but is certainly recorded in in the Antonine Itinerary II. A milestone dedicated to Emperor Octavio Augusto dated 8AD was found in the Venta Quemada river gorge and is conserved in the Cúllar parish church. The Roman road passed through Eliocroca (today’s Lorca), Ad Morun (possibly Chirivel) and Basti (Baza).

Estadio Municipal Marbella

Marbella Fútbol Club home games were played at the Estadio Municipal de Marbella, a 9,000 capacity stadium. However the stadium was old and is earmarked for demolition. It will be replaced by a new stadium with an investment of around 115 million euro facility for the 2025/6 season.

Moorish influence is clear across the province, especially in Granada city, where much of the cities' architecture remains true to that of past centuries. With so much history left behind, many museums exist to preserve and show visitors important artifacts.

Cycling in Andalucia

Equally in the last few years the number of cyclists in the cities and towns has increased, and so has the km-s of cycle lanes. Seville being a prime example.

Chercos - History

According to Oliver Asín, the name ‘Chercos’ derives from the Mozarab word yerku, which means “the oak”. This is likely because of the oak trees that would have surrounded early settlements in the area. We have to differentiate between Chercos Viejo, the former farmhouse, and Chercos, the town. The establishment of municipal offices in Las Huertas signaled the birth of today’s settlement.

Churriana de la Vega

Churriana de la Vega is a village known as the lungs of Granada city, due to its vast natural environment; it is a breath of fresh air outside of the city. The Muslim legacy is evident in every corner of this village, whose population dates from the 14th century. A very important historical event in the Nasrid era took place here. After a meeting between the Catholic Monarchs and the delegates of Boabdil, Granada was surrendered.

Starlite Festival Marbella 2024

The Starlite Festival is a three month-long music and cultural event held in June, July and August at the Cantera de Nagüeles, in Marbella. It is now established as one of the important annual social and entertainment events in Spain. First and last dates of currently confirmed concerts are 14th June to 31st August 2024.

Vías Pecuarias

Andalucia is covered with what are known as Vías Pecuarias. They are a network of paths or trails that have been used in prior times traditionally to transport livestock to and from pastureland or to market. They can vary in size from mostly forgotten impassable trails to wider, well-used roads.
