Population Statistics in Andalucia

According to the latest municipal register (padron) the population of Andalucia on the 1st January 2025 was 8,437,000. This is provisional estimate. According to the municipal redister (padron) the population of Andalucia on the 1st January 2011 is 8,415,000. This is an increase of 13.6% from the 2001 National Census.

History of Dalías

The origins of Dalías date to the Al-Andalus period. The current population corresponds to the old Muslim town of Ambrox, although other data indicates that the primitive population was located 2km from the current situation, in El Campo, where there are remains of tombs, aqueducts, houses and streets. Its name comes from the Arabic word dalaya, which means vineyard.

Jete

Jete has become a popular destination for rural tourism. Situated to the south of the Sierra de Almijara, its village centre extends between the banks of the Río Verde. It has about 1000 inhabitants.

Books - Birds of Iberia

Since the early days of the Victorian naturalists who 'discovered' the ecological treasures of, the Iberian Peninsular, this region of Europe has attracted many with an interest in birds. Despite this interest, there have been remarkably few books on birds and birdwatching in the area. Among those that have appeared Santana's Birds of Iberia has stood out as a bright beacon since it was first published in 1993.

There is a bus service from Moclín to Granada City using the local bus company. There are various bus stops in Moclín.

Láujar de Andarax

Láujar de Andarax occupies a hillside position at 920m. With a backdrop of rocky peaks and dense pine forest, it has stunning views over the fertile plain of the Andarax River. The town is famous for being the residence of Boabdil, the last Nasrid ruler of the Moorish Kingdom of Al-Andalus, who sought refuge in Láujar in 1492 after he was expelled from Granada following the city’s capture by the Catholic Monarchs.

Located in the golf valley of Nueva Andalucía, a mere two kilometres from Puerto Banús, this is a lengthy 9-hole course designed by José María Elguezábal. Ideal for all levels of experience, it is also perfect for a precision game as there are many water hazards and most of the greens are protected by bunkers.

Royal Hospital, Granada City

This hospital is a gothic building, founded by the Catholic Monarchs- Isabella and Fernando- it has a Renaissance façade with Plateresque decoration and a Baroque portico as well as beautiful courtyards and coffered ceilings.

Benahadux

Benahadux sits over the Andarax River and is home to many archaeological remains from the Copper Age. The town’s primary economic activity is the production and trade of straw, oranges and potatoes. It has about 4,360 inhabitants.

Linares de la Sierra

This quaint village is located a short drive from the local main town of Aracena, and has steep, cobbled streets. The village, with a population of 300, lies at 500m above sea level, and has been declared of cultural interest by the regional government. It is a very medieval-looking village, built on the side of a steep hill, without many public spaces.

Aguadulce

Aguadulce is home to some of the best quality Spanish purebred horses, raised in the "Hermanos Maldonado" Stud. They have won various prizes from institutions, like SICAB, that recognise their prestige. It has about 2000 inhabitants.

History of Instinción

The name Instinción is believed to be of Latin origin, dating from the time of Augustus, in Romanized Hispania. However, is has also been argued that Instinción was the name of a Muslim Princess from the Nasrid family. The town was a Muslim farmhouse during the Middle Ages, sitting in a privileged enclave next to fertile and strategic land on the Alpujarra road.

Alicante - Elche Airport

Aeropuerto de Alicante-Elche airport is the major gateway for visitors to the Costa Blanca. It is also convenient for those travelling to north-east Andalucia - Almeria and Jaen provinces. The fifth-busiest airport in Spain, it handles over twenty million passengers every year. Over three-quarters of flights are international.

Benizalón

Benizalón has an Arab past which is evident in its centre, with narrow and cobbled streets flanked by whitewashed houses. It has about 250 inhabitants. The first reliable data on the occupation of the area dates from the Moorish era. After the expulsion of the Moors from the Kingdom of Granada in the sixteenth century, the town became part of the State of Tahalá.

El Campillo

El Campillo is situated very near Minas de Rio Tinto and covers an area of 91km², at an altitude of 434m above sea level. It sits in the centre of the Comarca de la Cuenca Minera de Riotinto (the Mining Basin of RioTinto) and has around 2300 inhabitants.

Peña del Hierro Mine

This is the mine which is open to visitors. It is10 km from Minas de Rio Tinto village - you drive in convoy leaving from the mining museum, following your guide in his vehicle (it's too complicated to explain on a map).
