History of Chirivel

The town’s origin comes from a set of farmhouses in the Los Vélez manor. It obtained its municipal independence from Vélez Rubio in 1895. There is not much agreement on the meaning of its name. According to the Arabists, its name means “kiss of Allah”, whilst more recent research has associated its toponym with an Arab verb meaning “to drink”, or “drink from the highest source”.

Golf - La Noria Golf Resort

This course lies in Mijas’s golf valley between the sea and the Sierra de Mijas mountain range. It is situated between Fuengirola and Marbella.

The course suits players of all levels, and is completely flat. It includes four bridges connecting tees, greens and fairways, while water features include lakes and a stream which passes through the centre of the course. Santaella

Santaella is transformed during the month of August, when the Plaza Mayor and Paseo Adarve are transformed into scenes from the Middle Ages and play host to a medieval-style feast. It has around 6,000 inhabitants.

The monastery was constructed in 1412 on the site of a Moorish stronghold. 'Rábida' is a Arabic word meaning fortress. Its Moorish influences can still be seen in its Mudéjar architecture, including the fine cloister.

San Nicolás del Puerto

It is within the Sierra Norte de Sevilla Natural Park. This area is also known to be a good for rock climbing and potholing. It has about 620 inhabitants.
