English Cemetery in Malaga

The English Cemetery lies on a hillside very near the historic centre of Malaga. More than 1000 people are buried within its 8,000 square metres; the majority, including its founder, are British but there are also Spanish and Americans, Danes and Swedes among other nationalities.

Gibraltar Airport History

The runway was first established during the Second World War on the southern half of the 'neutral zone'. During the sieges this had been an un-demarcated strip of sand on the isthmus separating the British and Spanish lines of fortifications. It was said to be the distance of a canon ball's range. In 1813 it was used by Gibraltar as a Yellow fever encampment. In 1909 the British erected a fence and gate half way along. Between the world-wars Gibraltar marked out a horse-racing track.

Malaga City - Shopping

Shopping in Málaga is a fascinating mix of the old and the new. Years ago shopping for the malagueños was a fairly parochial, low-key affair but economic booms and the increase in tourism, has resulted in more contemporary and chic shopping options, including international chains and shopping malls.

Alejandro

Run by head chef Alejandro, cuisine with exquisite presentation and bursting with flavours made this restaurant an absolute delight and an experience in itself. The restaurant sourced ingredients for its food locally; advantageously positioned next to the port of Roquetas de Mar, where local chefs can choose from a wide variety of freshly caught seafood to use in their dishes.

Districts

Like all towns of its dimensions, Fuengirola has commonly known districts, which are handy as landmarks and reference when getting around: El Centro (The heart of the centre of Fuengirola is the Plaza de la Constitución), Los Boliches (Los Boliches is the seafront area to the eastern side of Fuengirola centre).

El Higueron district of Fuengirola

The Higuerón district lies inland from Fuengirola, on the hillside west of Avenida del Higuerón, which runs up to the A-7 motorway.

Pueblo Lopez district of Fuengirola

Pueblo Lopez is a surprisingly picturesque little residential community between El Boquetillo neighbourhood and the town centre. This neighbourhood was built in the early 1960’s by an English builder who was determined not to succumb to the increasing tendency at that time to construct high rise buildings.

Carvajal, district of Fuengirola

Carvajal is Fuengirola's most easterly district which overlaps into Benalmadena. It is mostly known for the Carvajal beach and public promenade which runs the entire length of the district. There is a train station here on the Fuengirola to Malaga cercanias line.

Restaurants

One of the most popular holiday resorts along the Costa Almeria, just 15 minutes drive from the city of Almeria itself, Roquetas de Mar has an abundance of dining options and restaurants to accommodate the waves of Spaniards and foreign tourists that descend upon the resort during the summer season.

Sollo restaurant

Sollo restaurant is in the Higueron Hotel in the Higueron district of Fuengirola. Sollo's head chef Diego Gallegos specialises in sturgeon, caviar and river fish and subsequently bears the name "The Caviar Chef". The restaurant has a special menu which changes seasonally. Even before the ordering of food begins you are invited to taste the different caviar on offer, either to experience the unique flavours.

Acánthum restaurant

Acánthum has a special distinction as Huelva province's first restaurant to be awarded a Michelin Star, under the direction of head chef Xanty Elías. A varied, innovative and carefully created menu is available to peruse in Acánthum which includes a range of culinary delights from fish and meat dishes to tantalising sweets.

Restaurants in Almeria

Almeria has an abundance of restaurants, tapas bars and cafés offering delicious food and snacks at reasonable prices. Like many places in Andalucia, a lot of tapas bars in Almería serve a small tapas dish with every round of drinks or drink ordered. Restaurant quality in the city can vary.

Restaurants in Huelva

Huelva, being a port town, is most famous for the exquisite seafood that can be found here. Shellfish is a popular choice in the area and it is very easy to find restaurants serving the freshest of fish here. There are also many tapas bars in the city that serve up delicious dishes.

Seville urban Bus & Tram

Seville has an extensive bus network, covering all barrios around the city. Most buses leave either from Puerta de Jerez (south of the centre) or from Plaza Ponce de Leon (east). The circular buses, C3 and C4, follow the ring road around the old city centre. One small bus takes a circular route inside the centre, the C5.
