Benalmadena Pueblo - Butterfly Park

Butterfly Park, Benalmadena Pueblo

Situated on the outskirts of the village, next to the stunning Buddhist stupa, the butterfly park is housed in a spectacular Thai temple with exotic landscaped gardens. The park boasts more than 1,500 exotic species of butterflies that fly freely among tropical plants and water features.

Beside the beauty of the insects, one will experience the stages of their fascinating biological cycles, from egg to caterpillar and chrysalis to butterfly. Each species of butterfly needs a specific plant on which to lay its eggs - known as the host plant - which they eat as caterpillars. Many of the plants in the park have been brought directly from their countries of origin and include ornamental plants selected for their uniqueness and beauty; flowering plants rich in nectar (necessary to feed the butterflies) and the host plants.

The butterfly park also has an information centre and lecture room, a cafeteria with splendid views of the Buddhist stupa, and a novelty shop that sells butterfly themed gifts and accessories.  The park has no restrictions on cameras and even allows the admission of small dogs if they are carried by their owners. There is a special waiting area where larger dogs can be left during the visit.
