Restaurants in Arroyo de la Miel

Pabellon de la Navegación

This impressive riverside building was originally designed for Expo 92, when it had replicas of Columbus' three ships moored outside (now at the Muelle de las Carabelas in La Rabida). Today the Pabellon houses an excellent interactive museum about maritime navigation.

The Honey Museum is an interpretation centre dedicated to the conservation of biodiversity through beekeeping. Its aim is to create an open-to-the-public space for disseminating the history of beekeeping, bee biology, and hive products.

Villanueva del Rosario

If you are searching for hidden treasure, the white village of Villanueva del Rosario could be a good starting point. Easily accessible at 39 kilometres north of Malaga City, just 2.5 kilometres off the main Malaga/Granada (A359) road, legend has it that during Roman times treasure was buried beneath the Peñon de Solis (3 kilometres from the village centre) and to this day it has never been recovered.

Ermita de las Ánimas

The chapel is a temple where older people often go to pray, make promises and offer donations. Located at the end of the urban area of Nacimiento, in the Barranco del Moro.

Genalguacil - Encuentros de Arte 2010

A bi-annual event during the first two weeks in August on even years there is an art festival in Genalguacil called "Los Encuentros de Arte del Valle del Genal", and prize-winning works of art are created by 'Artists in residence' and placed on permanent public display throughout the village afterwards. Kasper Nielsen

Danish born Kasper Nielsen is the award winning chef and was co-owner of Roca Tranquila Restaurant in Fuengirola. From 2003 to 2007 he was a member of the All Danish Culinary Team that won the Olympic bronze, silver and gold medals in several world cups.

Capilla Casa de las Monjas

This small chapel was built at the end of the 1950s and measures about 3x8m, with Neo-Gothic reminiscences, false vaults, two pointed windows in the front and a curious shell-shaped roof over the altar. It is located inside a simple house-convent.

Ensalada de pimientos asados

Roast the red peppers: wash and dry well, and poke once with a fork. Place in an oiled shallow baking dish and bake, uncovered, at medium high for an hour or so, until the peppers are very tender when pierced with a fork. This is best done early in the day or the day before, but if you have a microwave you can speed up the process (though best flavour is acquired in the oven or over hot coals, if you have them).

Voting and Elections

Election campaigns are well organised in Spain. The general order of events is as follows: Voting - Foreigners wishing to vote in local (but not regional or national) elections need to prepare in advance in order to be admitted to the polls on election day. Municipal Elections - The last town hall municipal elections in Spain took place on the 22nd May 2011. They take place every four years.

Castillo El Castellón

There are certain confusions whether this castle was linked to Vélez Blanco or Rubio, since the Arab authors cite only, Vélez. In the tenth century it was certainly inhabited and there are descriptions of it the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries.

New Flamenco - Gypsy Kings

Massive in the USA, where their recordings often sell platinum, the Gypsy Kings are probably the most popular, and populist, nuevo flamenco band in the world. Famed for their 1987 hit, 'Bamboleo', they bring a distinctive French influence from their origins in the gypsy culture around Arles, Montpelier, where Spain's roma legacy overlaps the border of France.
