Hornos

Despite some recent construction around the village, the view of Hornos del Segura from afar remains spectacular. The ancient wall of this former Arab fortress stands almost intact, and the village is crowned by a castle with tower. There are numerous fantastic viewpoints overlooking the surrounding Sierra de Cazorla Natural Park. It has about 600 inhabitants.

Terque

Walking through the streets of Terque, visitors should look out for the bourgeois houses that were the product of mining in the Sierra de Gádor and the exportation of dessert grapes. It has about 370 inhabitants.The first cultural settlement of Terque is likely to have been prehistoric, evidenced by the millenary cave town found by the occupants of the Millares.

The tourist office of Albuñán is located in the Town Hall.

Marble

The marble and stone carvers of Andalucia are known for their traditional working of tombstones, pantheons and adornments. The carvers of Jaén are well known for their finely carved marble ashlars. There are many factories in the province of Malaga, such as the Colegiata at Antequera. There is a well known quarry at Macael in Almeria Province that produces marble which rivals that of Carrara in purity.

Festivals in Serrato are Cabalgata de Reyes Magos, La Candelaria, Día de Andalucía, Día de Andalucía, Día de la Vieja, Semana Santa, Feria de Octubre and Los Tostones.

Bullfighting - Fascinating Facts 3

As of July last year, bullfighting in Catalonia is banned, joining the Canary Islands in bidding goodbye to La Fiesta. There are strong anti-bloodsports movements in other parts of Spain - even Andalucia, which is considered its home (see FACT IV) - though it remains to be seen if or when these people will achieve their aim in ensuring that trajes de luces (suits of lights, worn by bullfighters) only appear as museum pieces. An estimated 150,000 people are employed in the sport in Spain, from bull-breeders to suit makers.

Vícar

Villa de Vícar is situated in the southern foothills of the Sierra de Gádor. Belonging to one of the richest regions in Spain, most of the municipal area is dedicated to intensive greenhouse agriculture. The population of the municipality is divided into 13 separate nuclei; La Villa de Vícar, La Gangosa-Vistasol, Puebla de Vícar, Las Cabañuelas, Congo-Canal, Llanos de Vícar, Barrio de Archilla, El Parador, La Envía, Cañada Sebastiana.

Plaza Bocanegra

The square - or rather a traffic roundabout - at the start of the Golden Mile was named after one of Marbella's founders, local priest Monseñor Rodrigo Bocanegra (1908-1972).

Ermita Virgen del Carmen

The Ermita de la Virgen del Carmen in Dólar is a modern chapel inaugurated in 2016. It adds to the town’s religious architecture and devotion to the Virgen del Carmen.

Dúdar

This lovely village is just 15 kilometres from Granada city, located in the valley between the Sierra Nevada and Sierra de Huétor mountain ranges. If you’re looking for a charming village that has not yet succumbed to modern architectural designs, then this is just the place for you. Wander the streets to enjoy the pretty, traditional Andalusian buildings, visit the well maintained 17th century church.

Most clinics and private hospitals also operate their own ambulance services. Ambulances are equipped with emergency equipment such as oxygen and life-support systems and drivers and staff are trained to provide first-aid.
