Iglesia Parroquial de Nuestra Señora de los Dolores

The Iglesia Parroquial de Nuestra Señora de los Dolores (Parish Church of Our Lady of Sorrows) dates to 1785 and was built to plans drawn up by Spanish architect, Ventura Rodríguez (1717-1785), among others.

Convento de San Luis

One of the historical events most deeply remembered in the town is the one associated with Queen Isabel la Católica and the Battle of La Zubia. According to popular tradition, in the summer of 1491 (Saturday, 25th August), the Queen decided to go horseback riding to enjoy the beauty of the Alhambra and its surroundings.

Juzgado de la Paz

The building that houses the Juzgado de la Paz (Justice of the Peace Court) is one of the town’s most emblematic buildings. It began operating on 21st February 1925, when the Sierra Nevada Tramway opened.

Cájar’s tourist office is located in the Town Hall.

Puro Latina Fest

The Puro Latino Festival emerged in Spain in the summer of 2018, celebrating its first edition on 14 August in El Puerto de Santa María (Cádiz). Since its inception, the event has positioned itself as one of the main musical events dedicated to reggaeton, trap, and Latin urban rhythms.

Alameda

This small town of barely 5,000 inhabitants north-west of Antequera is probably most famous for its cadaverous celebrity El Tempranillo, the legendary 19th century bandit born in nearby Jauja and buried in Alameda's Iglesía de la Purísima Concepción church. The so-called Principe de la Sierra, prince of the mountains, is the most colourful of Andalucía's many bandit heroes.

Natural History in Gibraltar

The Rock of Gibraltar is a giant slab of jagged Jurassic limestone. It has dominated the Straits of Gibraltar for around 200 million years and of course over such a period has continually changed and evolved. The porous limestone ensures that the Rock always has a plentiful water supply. So when nearby Spain is often arid and brown the Rock will be lush and green.

Cenes de la Vega is a village in Granada province located very close to the city of Granada, and is an ideal destination for rural tourism thanks to its beautiful landscapes.

Shopping in Gibraltar

Traditionally, British ex-pats living in nearby Spain have flocked to Gibraltar to bank and to shop for those tastes of home such as Cheddar cheese and tea bags. The latter are now freely available in Spain but the ex-pats still flock to the Rock for a different shopping experience.

Castellar de la Frontera

The old village of Castellar de la Frontera is perched high on a hilltop in the province of Cadiz, with commanding views over the Guadarranque reservoir. The village is easiest reached from the A-405 road that leaves the coast at San Roque, branching off to Castellar on the (CA-P-5131) after just 10 kilometers.

Castillo del Aguila (Eagle’s Castle) in Gaucin

Castillo del Aguila (Eagle's Castle) in the Moorish hilltown of Gaucin, consists of a series of fortifications built across a rocky ridge above the village. The castle, which is of Roman origin, and was reinforced by the Moors, is located on top of a hill whose east and south slopes are practically impregnable; the best way to reach this magnificent, historic building is by walking up Calle Larga.
