Estepona Mural - Llegando a tu destino

Llegando a tu destino (Arriving at your destination) is a mural by DOURONE. The artists are Fabio López (Madrid) and Elodie Arshak (Francia). Their artistic name Dourone was created when Fabio began to create graffiti in 1999 and joined up with Elodieloll in 2012. The mural is located on extention of Avenida San Lorenzo 17. This mural was included in the in the 'Inaugural International Mural Competition of Estepona - 2017'.

Beach Rules

In 1982 the Direction General de Puertos y Costas (a national agency to oversee ports and coastline) ruled that all beaches in Spain should be public and removed the concept of a private beach. The laws relating to what you can and can not do on the beach stem from the 1988 and 2014 Ley de Costas which defines the public nature of the beach that can not be sealed of off for a private use.

Ermita de Jesús

The chapel has an eighteenth-century Baroque-style portal. At the foot of the hermitage, we can see a high choir, while the central altarpiece is from the nineteenth century, in Neoclassical style, and has the figure of Jesús Nazareno framed in its centre.

History of Lobras

This municipality, comprising Lobras and Tímar, was founded during the early years of Islamic domination. However, the presence of an inactive mercury mine suggests that there was likely an earlier settlement. This is further supported by the Celtic origin of the place name Lobras and the possible Iberian origin of the place name Tímen (Tímar), as well as some Iberian-Roman archaeological remains found in the municipality. In any case, the earliest written record of Lobras and Tímar is provided by Ben Aljatib (1313–1374), minister to Mohamed V, who cites a twelfth-century writer's description of the Kingdom of Granada.

Monda

Monda is a tiny town (or large village) in the mountains just inland from the Costa del Sol. Situated past Ojén on the A-355, it lies a mountain valley at 365m and has a population of less than 2,000. It is well-linked by road with Marbella, just 15km away, as well as Coin and Cartama (for Malaga). Thanks to development on the nearby coast over the last few decades, the town has enjoyed new prosperity.

Necrópolis Megalítica

This archaeological site features one of the largest and most interesting funerary complexes in the southeast of the peninsula. Different types of burials are represented, with the majority being megalithic, characterized by having a central chamber with a polygonal plan, built with large stones arranged vertically, and a flat roof made from large stone slabs.

Istan - Lake Istan

Embalse de la Concepción

Lake Istan as it is commonly known was formed when the Presa de la Concepción (La Concepción Dam) and Embalse de la Concepción (La Concepción Reservoir) were constructed in 1972 to provide water for the growing population of Marbella and the Costa del Sol.

Marinated Partridge

Clean the partridges and tie them with string so they keep their shape. In a cazuela or deep flameproof casserole, brown them slowly in the oil, then remove. Add the onion, garlic, carrot, bay, thyme, parsley, pepper, cloves, paprika, vinegar, wine and salt to the casserole. Bring to a boil and cook 5 minutes.

Hotel Pez Espada - History

Although many locals laughed at the seemingly bizarre idea of building a five-star hotel on the beach in a small fishing village, the luxurious Hotel Pez Espada opened for business on Sunday 31 May 1959. The history of the Costa del Sol, and especially the history of Torremolinos, would be incomplete without referring to the hotel, for it became renowned for its famous guests and its illustrious galas and parties.

Iznate

One of the towns within the comarca of Axarquia, Iznate is known as "the paradise of the Muscat grape", where grapes, almonds, avocados and olives are produced. Iznate also belongs to Ruta del Sol y del Aguacate. In this town, visitors can walk along the steep, narrow, winding streets, typical of a Moorish urban settlement. Houses have carefully whitewashed facades adorned with pots of geraniums and other flowers.

Yacimiento Arqueológico Cueva de la Mora

The main archeological site is from the Neolithic era, although the valley was inhabited until the beginning of the twentieth century. It has an easy defense with a single entrance that opens to the valley with a natural spring a few meters away.
