History

Cogollos de Guadix has ancient origins dating back to the Late Roman Empire and the Argaric period. Later settled by Arabs and later ruled by the Marques de Villena, it preserves a rich mix of cultures and history.

Iglesia de la Anunciación

The church has distinctive characteristics that set it apart from its surroundings. It was commissioned in 1545 by Francisco Roldán. Externally, the beautiful tower is the most notable element of the urban landscape and a true identifying symbol of the town.

Castillo

The castle comprises the remains of a large, almost square tower measuring approximately 12 metres on each side.

Aljibe Árabe

The Arab cistern of Cogollos de Guadix is a semi-buried rectangular water tank from the Emirate period, now restored and used as an exhibition hall in Plaza Aljibe.

Bus service

There is a bus service from Cogollos de Guadix to Granada City using the local BAM company. The bus stop in Cogollos de Guadix is located in Plaza de Andalucía.

Ermita Virgen de la Cabeza

The chapel is situated on Cerro de la Virgen de la Cabeza. To reach it, you have to climb about 500 metres. There are two chapels here — one older and one newer, built in 1992 to welcome more pilgrims.

Mirador Cerro de la Horca

From this vantage point, you can see most of the town of Beas de Guadix, with the troglodyte complex, which today forms the Centro de Interpretación del Trogloditismo Algarbes y Camariles, clearly visible on the left.

History

The history of Dehesa de Guadix originates during the Granada War, when the Catholic Monarchs granted land to Don Diego Fernández de Iránzo in 1491, a donation later confirmed by King Felipe V in 1751. The current name, meaning "pastures of Guadix," likely dates to the 16th and 17th centuries when the area was used for horse breeding.

Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Anunciación

The church lacks a tower and has a basilica structure with a single nave and a Mudejar roof. There is no evidence of the age of the church in this municipality, nor any significant data.

Mirador del Fin del Mundo

From this viewpoint named “End of the World”, visitors can observe the immensity of the Sierra Nevada, the Guadix badlands, the poplar groves along the Fardes River, the Alhama River plain, and the limestone mass of Cerro Mencal.

Traditional festivals in Albuñán are Fiesta de las Flores, Día de San Francisco de Asís, Fiesta de los Emigrantes and Virgen del Rosario.

Albuñán

Albuñán is a village of medieval Andalusian origin that was created on the site of an old Arab farmstead where families dedicated to growing grain lived. The name Albuñán literally means "the building," although it is not known exactly which one it refers to.

Aldeire

Aldeire is a village situated inside the Sierra Nevada national park. It is an ideal destination for lovers of nature and outdoor sports such as hiking. One thing to see in Aldeire are the ruins of the Castillo de Cava, belonging to the Caliphate period (11th Century). Nasrid ceramics dating back to the 8th and 9th Century have been found here.
