Iglesia Santa Maria La Mayor

This church’s construction began in 1467 and continued until 1624. Of Gothic origin, it has a hall plan with three naves, with ribbed vaults at the feet. During the sixteenth century, its robust tower, made of brick and Mudejar decoration, began to be erected.

Throughout history, washing clothes has been one of the most common tasks carried out by women. Until running water became widely available in homes, this task was carried out on the banks of rivers, in irrigation ditches, water troughs or courtyards. From the eighteenth century onwards, washhouses became places where women worked and socialised.

El Portico

On the opposite side of the square is another popular bar called El Portico and this hidden treasure specializes in Castilian cuisine. This rustic themed establishment opened in 1999 and offers a range of gourmet-style tapas, including quail eggs, asparagus, lacón Gallego (boiled ham), angula (baby eels), and roast pepper salad.
