Tarifa Strapless Pro 2019

The Tarifa Strapless Pro competition is now a well established event in Tarifa. The Kite-Surf World Tour and the Kiteboarding World Tour in a huge Grand Slam combo-event! The event was free for spectators. Access at Casa to Porras where Restaurante Bibo was set up in 2019 and parking was available (5€). Also via Hotel Valdevaqueros where there is parking (5€) and the beach was also easily accessed via Tangana café. The competition can´t be missed - look out for the flags on the beach.

The 2019 edition (3rd to 7th July) of the Tarifa Strapless Kitesurf was noted for a strong levante (easterly) wind lasting the first five days, however on the final Sunday, a sunny day the wind started to blow from the west. It was a long day for both the judges and riders. The action did not stop for more than 7 uninterrupted hours.

Over 80 riders registered for this event. They accepted a slightly shortened format for their heats.

In the Strapless women's category, the local Tarifa hero Carla Herrera (Twitter: @CarlaHerreraO, Instagram: @Carlaherreraoria) took first place, while in the men's category it was Kiko Roig of Spain who took first place in the classification. In the men's freestyle category, Gianmaria Coccoluto of Italy finished first.

The representatives of the public institutions did not want to miss the surf. The vice president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juan Marín; the subdelegate of government of the Junta de Andalucía, Eva Pajares; the Territorial Tourism Delegate, Miguel Rodríguez; the Provincial Deputy of Economic Development of the Diputación de Cádiz, Jaime Armario; the Mayor of Tarifa, Francisco Ruiz presented the trophies in the ceremony on Valdevaqueros beach.

BIBO Beach House restaurant became the headquarters for this international event, and music producer Carlos Jean, offered an afterparty DJ session on the Valdevaqueros beach.
