La Nogalera district gay bars

by Tony Bryant

Most of the gay bars in Torremolinos are situated in La Nogalera. This area is the town's 'gay village' and has many night bars and clubs that stay open until dawn. There are also bars and cafes that open all day, serving breakfasts, snacks and meals.

These bars are situated around the Plaza La Nogalera in front of the Cercanias train station, whereas the lively night scene takes place in the maze of passageways that lead from the main square.

Most of the daytime bars in this area are gay-friendly and there are several that cater for a particular trend, like Babel, formerly 'Pricillas'; a cosy drinks bar with a spacious outside terrace that attracts an older bear scene.

The Vanilla Café is probably one of the most popular haunts in the square.

This English/Spanish owned café-bar is a popular meeting point for locals and tourists.

With a freshly modern look, Vanilla Cafe serves breakfast and brunch, and it also has a lively night time scene. The bar has an ample terrace that demands views of the square and it is the perfect place to watch the musical events that are staged there during the summer months.

The Vanilla Café is flanked by several similar establishments like the Biznaga Bar, which serves Spanish cuisine, and the Luna Egipcia, a cocktail lounge that serves vegan and vegetarian food.

Most of these bars open at 10am and serve food and drinks until around midnight, or even later if the party is going strong.
