Cadiz - DAY TRIPS and EXCURSIONS
Cadiz is a beautiful city, with a rich history and culture. It is also a great base for exploring the surrounding areas, with many options for shore based excursions. Here are some of the most popular ones:
- Seville: This is the capital and largest city of Andalusia, and one of the most impressive cities in Spain. It has three UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the Alcázar palace complex, the Cathedral and the General Archive of the Indies. It also has a vibrant tapas scene and a stunning Plaza de España. You can visit Seville with a private or small-group tour, with a personal local host and a comfortable Mercedes vehicle.
- Jerez: This is the city of sherry wine, and a paradise for food and wine lovers. You can learn about the making, ageing and enjoyment of sherry with a certified Sherry Educator, and taste different varieties of this unique wine. You can also visit the city’s castle and cathedral, and watch a performance of the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art.
- The white villages: These are the picturesque hilltop towns of Andalusia, with whitewashed houses and narrow streets. You can visit some of the most charming ones, such as Arcos de la Frontera, Grazalema, Zahara de la Sierra and Ronda. You can also enjoy the stunning scenery of the natural parks, the mountains and the lakes.
These are just some of the excursions from Cadiz that you can enjoy. There are many more options, depending on your interests and preferences. Below is a selection of excursions from Cadiz city to locations outside the city of Cadiz. If you are interested in local guided tours of the city of Cadiz itself they are found on our Cadiz tour page.
Guided excursions and private excursions
There are two types of excursions from Cádiz: guided excursions and private excursions:
Guided excursions are organised by a local tour operator. They usually involve a large group of people travelling together by coach. You have a guide who explains the sights and history of the destinations, and you follow a set itinerary and schedule. Guided tours are convenient and easy to book, and the prices are very competitive. There is a variation of a guided tour called a 'small group tour' which limits the number of people on the tour.

Private excursions and tours are usually organised by smaller local tour companies and your smaller group will enjoy the services of a guide and probably a driver of a minibus or people carrier. You will have more control over the pace, duration and activities of your tour and can tailor it to suit the preferences and interests of your group. Private tours are more personal and can fit into your day more easily than guided tours. However, they are more expensive and the price per person depends on the number of people in the group; many find that the extra investment divided by the number of people in the group can be worth it.
