Miraflores

Miraflores is located halfway between Marbella and Fuengirola, has six all-weather courts and the club organises round-robin Sunday tournaments, as do most clubs. Other facilities include two swimming pools and a bar/restaurant. These are great fun, as you simply turn up and play.

The Pompidou Centre

Opened on 28 March 2015, the Pop-Up Pompidou is housed in El Cubo, a cuboid glass structure in Malaga port, and buildings next to it. It received 76 thousand visitors in the first three months. The 6000m2 centre has 80 works, with two or three annual exhibitions lasting 3-6 months during the next five years.

Joan Hunt

The founder of Cudeca, Joan Hunt, who died in 2021 at the age of 92, was one of the most inspirational pioneers in the field of palliative care in Southern Spain. She arrived in Málaga in 1984 with the idea of retiring with her husband, Fred, but unbeknown to her at that time, this would be the beginning of a new era for both Joan and the Costa del Sol.

Snorkelling & Diving

Snorkelling is something that pretty well anyone who can swim can do, with the minimum of equipment - basically, it's a snorkel, facemask and flippers and away you go. The relatively calm seas and gentle tides provide a perfect environment for face-down fun.

Casares is a beautiful Andalucian ´pueblo blanco´ (white village), situated just a short drive away from Estepona, on the Costa del Sol. It receives a large number of visitors all year round and has a number of hotel and apaptment and villa rental options to welcome these visitors.

Pinos Puente

Pinos Puente is a destination enjoyed by nature lovers, as well as by those interested in culture and history. It comprises six main populated areas, each with their own traditions and fiestas: Valderrubio, Casanueva, Fuensanta, Trasmulas, Zujáira and Pinos Puente itself. Pinos Puente was the childhood home of the famous Spanish poet Federico García Lorca. It was in Valderrubio, a district of Pinos Puente, that he first studied literature and wrote some of his earliest works. The town has a population of around 13,500.

Walking is one of the very best ways to discover this beautiful region of Southern Spain, Andalucia. The late Guy Hunter-Watts offerd us a selection of his favourite walks in Andalucia. They are taken from his book "Walking in Andalucia - The best walks in Spain's natural parks". The following walks will take about 3 hours each of slightly longer if you take your time.

Hotels

Almanzora area is located in the northeast of the province between the areas of Los Vélez and the Sierra de los Fibrales. Is made up of 27 municipalities and it has a Mediterranean climate, the average temperature is 15 Cº. The area has cold winters with average minimum temperatures of 2ºC in the coldest months and maximum average temperatures of 13ºC.

Nigüelas

Nigüelas is a village which reveals charm in every corner. Its location is extremely privileged - it is the highest municipality in the Valle de Lecrín. The 3000-metre-high “Pico del Caballo” mountain impresses visitors with its grandeur - in winter it is capped with snow, while in summer or on a clear day, it offers view down to the sea.

Ángel Ganivet

If you walk up the Cuesta de Gomérez to the Alhambra, rather than take one of the shuttle buses, you will more than likely come across a curious statue set back from the road. Where the Calle Real de la Alhambra meets the Cuesta, which then turns to a gravelled path darting up hill.

Popular festivals in Navas de San Juan are Romería de la Virgen de la Estrella, Feria y Fiesta en Honor a San Juan Bautista and Fiesta del Emigrante.

San Fernando

The town of San Fernando, often referred to as La Isla del Sur (the Island of the South), is not actually an island but a small peninsula, set within the stunning setting of the Bay of Cadiz. Covering an area of some 30 km2, it is connected to Cadiz City by an eight kilometre strip of land and for centuries was connected on the rest of the mainland only by the Zuazo bridge. It is an important Andalucian town, with a population of close to 100,000.

Via Verde of the Sierras Subbéticas

The Via Verde Subbeticas is a southern extention of the Vía Verde of the Olive Oil that originates in Jaen city. The Via Verde Subbeticas covers 56 km, much of it on the fringes of the limestone mountainous area of the Sierras Subbéticas Natural Park. It links a series of beautiful villages, such as Zuheros, Luque and Cabra.

Coronavirus Chronology

We received an email from one of our readers, Cheryl Jessop asking if Semana Santa would still go ahead. We replied "As far as we know the Feria is still planned to go ahead. Of course it will depend on events over the next month, but we do not hear any talk of cancellations in local media or social media." We had received several similar emails of the previous week so set up a Coronavirus page to advise tourists of the normality in Andalucia. Things changed very fast over the next few days
