Andalucia is not alone in its quest for the convenience of large out-of-town shopping centres or commercial centres ( centros comerciales) . Over the past five years shopping centres in Andalucia have become increasingly prevalent and in Andalucia today they form an integral part of most peoples’ shopping experience.

Jaen Archaeology and Fine Arts Museum

The building of the Museum of Archaeology and Fine Arts, or simply Museum of Jaén, dates from 1920 and was designed by the architect, Antonio Flórez Urdapilleta. It is designed as a square footprint  arranged around a central patio. The patio and interior portal, of the lost Iglesia de San Miguel date from 1561.

Surfing at Conil de la Frontera

Playa Los Bateles is a continuation from the southern part of La Fontanilla and is the main emblamatic urban beach for Conil. Thanks to fairly strong winds here it is also popular with wind surfers partly because of the convenient car park.

In general this means that various age groups and their needs are catered for, from babies, toddlers and children to teenagers. Royal Chapel of Granada

The Royal Chapel (Capilla Real) sits inside the Cathedral of Santa María de la Encarnación. The Royal Chapel. The Catholic Monarchs founded the Royal Chapel for their own tombs. They chose to be buried in Granada because they saw its conquest as the crowning achievement of their reign. It was started in 1505 following a design by Enrique Egas and was completed in 1521. The northern fascade is by Garcia Pradas, and provides access to the interior; a plan in the shape of a latin cross with four side chapels.

Muslim

The horseshoe arch, first seen in small churches erected by the Visigoths, was developed by the Moors and became the hallmark of their architecture; the Grand Mosque in Córdoba being the classic and most well known example. Other design characteristics brought from Syria by the Umayyads in the 8th century were plant motifs and decorative inscriptions of calligraphy running horizontally across walls or around doorways.

Paloma Romero - aka Palmolive Punk Musician

From its inception, the punk movement rebelled against the status quo. Paloma Romero (aka Palmolive, member of the Slits and the Raincoats) found that this anarchical musical genre was the perfect means for criticising injustice. Whether this was the fascist regime of General Franco in her native Spain or the misogyny of London in the 1970s, Palmolive found plenty to criticize.

Roadside Hotels (Motels)

These hotels are located close to a motorway or a major road, and are ideal for anyone undertaking a long car journey across Andalucia, perhaps to discover the lesser-known parts of the region. They offer a convenient place to stay without having to make a detour onto a smaller road to find a hotel after a long day’s driving, although the downside is that they are functional rather than beautiful and full of character.

Nerja - Five Fascinating Fact 1 - Stalactite City

The Nerja Caves were formed five million years ago. This 4km-long cave system was once inhabited - skeletons, pottery, ornaments and implements of stone, flint, copper and bronze dating from Neolithic times were found when the caves were discovered in 1959, as well as animal paintings (not viewable, unfortunately).

Jerez de la Frontera - Five Fascinating Facts

Well-known as the place where sherry that classic English tipple, is produced, Jerez is also equally famous both for its horses and its flamenco. Situated in the province of Cadiz, and larger than its capital city, it is only 20km from the coast, but has an aristocratic, anglophile atmosphere all of its own. A major event in Jerez's annual calendar is the colourful, lively Vendimia (Grape Harvest) Festival in September.

Info Centres

In the western part of the park is El Dornajo, at Km 23 on the A395 road, 958 340 625. It has loads of information on the park, including an exhibition on the area's flora and fauna, hiking, where to stay, horse riding, cycle hire and paragliding. The centre sells guidebooks and maps on the park, some of which are available in English, and there is a shop selling locally produced cheese, ham and wine.

El Padron - Estepona districts

East of Punto Plata, visitors will enjoy a visit to the Padrón district. This low-density area showcases the benefits of the Andalucían Mediterranean coastline, offering visitors and residents the choice of a relaxing beach, beach clubs, and restaurants alongside the coastal  walkway to explore  the area.

Things to do

If sitting with a drink in the marina people-watching isn't enough, why not try something else in Puerto Banús. Boat Trip, for those that don't fancy taking the bus back to Marbella, or simply want to see the Costa del Sol from the sea, why not take a boat trip to Marbella? A boat leaves hourly from Puerto Banus marina on a 30 minute trip to Marbella, or a one-hour round trip.
