The Iglesia de Santiago Apostol

The Iglesia de Santiago Apostol is one of the oldest in Almeria city, and was founded by the Reyes Catolicos (Catholic Kings) in 1494, just five years after they recaptured the city from the Moors. It was located in an area which had a largely morisco population (Moors who converted to Christianity after the Reconquest).

History of Capileira

According to notes by the researcher Henríquez de Jorquera, the origin of Capileira dates from the Gothic period. Antonio Nevot Robles, a Capileira scholar, corroborated this, as the area's place names have a Latin origin.

San Luis Castle, Estepona

There is little left to see of the great castle which once stood at the heart of Estepona, and what remains is not now readily apparent, but it is possible to trace the ruins around the high ground. Its construction followed the seizing of the town in 1457 by Enrique IV. He also built new defensive towers along the coast.

History of Lahiguera

The oldest documented occupation of Lahiguera dates back to the final Neolithic era, a period in which the agricultural economy began to be consolidated. This process led to the development of the Copper Age in the definitive sedentism of the village population.

Plaza de la Merced

Plaza de la Merced is one of the best squares to visit in Malaga. Located at the top end of Calle Granada which is the minor (but none less interesting) continuation of major Calle Llarios at Plaza de la Constitution. The square is a popular meeting place in the evening and open air events take place here from time to time.

Bodega Guerola

Bodega Guerola, which clings to the corner Calle de las Mercedes and Calle San Miguel, is a beautiful and somewhat inviting old tavern that was founded in 1962. The interior is delightfully decorated with wrought iron grills, rustic ornamentation and plenty of wood, yet the large barrel-type tables on the pavement outside are a wonderful place to watch the world go by.

“Casa Alpujarreña” Museum

The municipal museum was built close to the time of the re-conquest. It is a typical Alpujarra house furnished and decorated as such.

The Carmelite Convent, Ronda

Walk up the hill from the bullring, and you will soon find yourself at the foot of a wide flight of stone steps leading to the imposing wooden doors of the Merced Carmelite Convent. The first Carmelites were male hermits, former pilgrims and crusaders who gathered together in 1155 AD at Mount Carmel in Palestine, close by the fountain of Elijah, and dedicated themselves to a life of austerity, poverty and prayer.

TIE Residence Cards

The Royal Decree 240/2007 requires that everybody planning to reside in Spain for more than six months should obtain a Residence Certificate or Card at the local Oficina de Extranjeros.  The TIE card is issued to Non-EU foreigners legally resident in Spain, hence it is a useful document to have to prove your status.

Ermita de Santa Ana

The first religious building to be built in Valverde del Camino, its construction dates from the beginning of the sixteenth century and is related to Doña Ana, wife of Don Alfonso de Guzmán (seventh Duke of Medina Sidonia), who was devoted to the Saint of her name.

Ceuta See & Do - Our Lady of Africa Sanctuary

The history of this church dates back to when the image of Our Lady of Africa was sent to Ceuta in 1421 by the Infante Henry the Navigator, ordering that it should be venerated from such time and dedicated to Saint Mary of Africa, and they also built a temple. The building is a baroque style and its base is rectangular with three naves, the central one being the widest and tallest, beside which the head is placed, composed of the main chapel and two secondary ones. The vestry and other rooms of the temple are connected to this.

Fuengirola Train service

The RENFE train station in Fuengirola is located on Avenida Jesús Santos Rein, just one road away from the bus station. From here you can catch the Fuengirola to Malaga commuter (cercanías) trainline C-1 which takes 48 minutes to get to Malaga City, via Benalmádena, Torremolinos and Malaga Airport.

Tourist Office in Nerja

The Nerja Tourist Office is located in Calle Carmen 1, Nerja. It is open Monday to Sunday 10:00 to 14:00 hrs. The staff are helpful. There is a pad of Nerja town maps on the counter, help yourself to one if the office is busy.

Disco TIBU, Puerto Banus is situated at the Plaza Antonio Banderas, between El Corté Ingles ad the main Puerto Banus Marina complex.  If you like house music, then Tibu is one of the better clubs in Puerto Banus. Big beds on the roof terrace of TIBU add to the ambience of this established Nightclub which is part of the Linnekers group. Open until late. Locally known just as 'TIBU', this is one of the larger night clubs in Puerto Banus and attracts clubbers from all over the Costa del Sol. Prepaid table packages for arrivals before 01.00 hrs are available. There are different theme nights in the summer.

Arroyo de la Miel - Plaza de España

Once the nucleus of Arroyo de la Miel, Plaza España is a delightful small square tucked away off the main pedestrianized area of the town. The square is entered though an 18th century archway known as the Portal de San Carlos. On the right, as one passes through the archway (which bears the coat of arms of Arroyo de la Miel's founder), a tiled wall offers information and painted images of the square's history.
