Resinera Voladilla - Estepona districts
By Sinéad Mangan-Mc Hale
Resinera–Voladilla is a small residential enclave on the eastern side of Estepona, forming part of the sought-after New Golden Mile— on the northern mountain side of the coastal highway between Estepona and Marbella. It borders the districts of Parque Antena and Selwo and, while it has no clearly defined administrative boundaries, the area broadly extends between Calle de la Boladilla (towards Marbella) and the winding stream of Arroyo de las Cañas (towards Estepona).
Residential areas
Unlike some of the more traditional districts surrounding Estepona, Resinera–Voladilla is not a cohesive urban neighbourhood but rather a fragmented residential area that has developed in phases over several decades.

In its earliest stage of development during the 1990s, the area consisted mainly of scattered detached villas on large plots. These were built both near the A-7 coastal road and around La Resina Golf & Country Club, as well as further inland within the natural hillside landscape. One of the oldest large villas in the area dates to 1985.
As with much of the Costa del Sol, the area experienced significant expansion during the early 2000s property boom. Although development slowed following the 2008 financial crisis, construction resumed within the following decade and continues today. This growth has been largely driven by international residential tourism and demand for second homes.
Modern development has focused more heavily towards the mountainside, with a mix of villas, townhouses, and apartment complexes built in phases. Notable examples include Soto Resinera, which was developed in multiple phases between 2001 and 2020. A popular urbanisation, Las Joyas, is typical of the area. It is not a single development, but a collection of smaller communities built over time from the late 1980s to the present. One of its main sub-communities, Las Lomas de las Joyas, includes properties dating from 1991. Camino de la Resinera, where initial townhouse phases began 1990 with further expansion completed as recently as 2018 and 2020 and where the phases are built across both Resinera-Voladilla and Selwo. There is the private gated community of only 17 villas in La Resina Golf, Estepona (2004), with two communal swimming pools and landscaped gardens with maintenance included.
More recent high-end developments entering the market in 2026 include Oasis 325 (a luxury apartment complex) and The Heights at La Resina Golf, offering contemporary villas.
Places of interest
La Resina Golf & Country Club opened in 2005. Designed by golf architects Craig Cooke and Bradley Smith, both known for their focus on designing golf courses in harmony with the natural terrain and on building a balanced, competitive, and challenging course to ensure players' enjoyment. After a temporary closure in 2021, ESY Golf Management renovated and reopened the club.
Open to non-members, La Resina is a 9-hole par-3 golf course, appropriate for beginners but also a good challenge for advanced golfers. The unique design of La Resina gives every hole an independent feel and character, each named to represent the surroundings, such as “Bosque” (Forest), “, Panorámic”, and “El Niño”, giving it a personal touch. Many golfers consider La Resina to have a modern approach to the game, but with all the charm of a prestigious club.
A half set of clubs is always included with the green fee, juniors under 16 are free with an adult, and a round takes less than two hours. As a beginner-friendly course, it does not require any handicaps, just a minimum level of experience. Enjoy lunch or a drink afterwards at the Club House and take in the lake view from the beautiful terrace. More>
