Los Llanos & Reinoso - Estepona districts

By Sinéad Mangan-Mc Hale

Reinoso and Los Llanos are two small rural-residential districts located on the eastern side of Estepona, between the El Padrón and Punta Plata districts. Although their boundaries are not formally defined, the district occupies roughly the area between the Río Padrón and the Arroyo de la Cala north of the A-7. The area is sparsely populated and characterised by a mixture of countryside properties, small residential developments, agricultural land, and natural landscapes. Its location provides easy access to both the coast and the foothills of the Sierra Bermeja.

Residential areas

The district contains a variety of individual homes, many of them traditional cortijos (country farmhouses). Some of the oldest properties, located in the northern areas closer to Sierra Bermeja, date from around 1950, while other residential properties were built between the 1960s and 1980s. Since the early 2000s, a number of contemporary villas and modern residential developments have been added.

Immediately west of the Río del Padrón is Urbanización Casas del Padrón, an apartment complex of 24 dwellings constructed during the 1990s. Nearby is Residencial El Padrón, a small residential urbanisation.

On Calle Casas del Padrón, Almina Residence is currently under construction. Designed by Spanish architect Juan Antonio Fernández, the development will comprise 60 apartments and is scheduled for completion in 2028.

Completed in 2024, Bougainvillea Estepona is a modern apartment development featuring landscaped communal areas, a saltwater swimming pool, fitness facilities, and wellness amenities including a sauna and jacuzzi. Its architectural design draws inspiration from traditional Andalucían village styles.

Another development under construction is Lagumare 41, a residential project consisting of 43 apartments distributed across five low-rise buildings, with completion expected in 2027.

Places of Interest

The rural character of Reinoso and Los Llanos makes it particularly suitable for outdoor activities. The surrounding countryside features quiet lanes and tracks that are popular for walking, cycling, and horse riding.

Several equestrian centres operate within the district, offering riding lessons, guided hacks, and training for riders of different experience levels. Some centres also specialise in traditional Spanish dressage. Facilities include Harmony Stable on Camino Calabujeo, H&J Horse Riding Academy in Diseminado La Cala, and Finca Caballos Al Kabar-Armstrong on Camino de Montesol.

Centro de Doma y Cría El Padrón, located on Calle Reinoso, is dedicated to horse breeding and training.

The area´s proximity to Sierra Bermeja also provides convenient access to hiking routes and natural areas known for their distinctive red-coloured mountains, native pine forests, and panoramic views of the Costa del Sol and, on clear days, the coast of North Africa.

Hotels and Resorts

The district's only hotel is Hotel El Molino, a former Andalucían water mill converted into a boutique-style property. Located on Camino La Lobilla, the hotel is surrounded by gardens with fig and orange trees and offers a swimming pool, terraces, and dog-friendly accommodation.

Visitors can also choose from a number of rural holiday properties and country villas, including La Recalada, Casa Rural Monte Padrón, and Villa El Dorado. These, and other properties in the area, offer self-catering accommodation in a countryside setting, often with private swimming pools and outdoor space.

Additional holiday rentals can be found throughout the district, particularly on fincas and rural estates. A wider selection of hotels, resorts, apartments, and holiday accommodation is available in neighbouring districts and along the Estepona coastline.

Santaverde Cosmética Natural, located on Camino Calabujeo, produces natural skincare products using organically grown aloe vera cultivated on-site and where shoppers can purchase freshly cut aloe vera for their own use.

Bus Service

There are also public bus services passing Resinera Voladilla: L-79 Estepona - Marbella between Estepona town and Marbella town, La Cañada Shopping centre and Marbella Bus Station. There is also the municipal E-3 Microbus (only four services a day) to and from Estepona town.

For those who want to enjoy more of the sights of Andalucía, the district is situated close to the A-7 coastal highway and within a short distance of the AP-7 toll road. This road is typically quieter, but there are toll booths at Manilva, San Pedro and Calahonda in both directions – tolls can be paid in cash, by credit card, or VIA-T (non-stopping) so visitors can easily access destinations on either side of Estepona. Along the coast to the west, these include Sotogrande, Gibraltar, Tarifa and the golden sand beaches of Costa de la Luz. Along the coast to the east, these include Marbella and Malaga. They can also explore the inland villages of Casares and Gaucin on the road to Ronda. Not forgetting the magnificent cities of Seville, Cordoba and Granada.
