Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP) on the Costa del Sol

Paddleboarding is the water sport where one is supported lying, kneeling or standing on a paddleboard or surfboard in the water, propelling oneself with arms in a swimming-like motion or with a paddle.

It was first observed in the Pacific by Captain Cook in the Sandwich Islands in 1778. Thomas Edward Blake is credited as the pioneer in paddleboard construction in the early 1930s. The sport also experienced a renaissance in California in the 1980s. 

Canyoning

Canyoning is an increasingly popular outdoor activity, or extreme sport, which involves descending gorges using a combination of walking, climbing, jumping, sliding, abseiling (rappelling), and swimming (or wading) in rivers and waterfalls. It is also a great way of exploring remote, spectacular scenery which may not be accessible on foot.

Polo in Spain

Polo originates from ancient Persia from the sixth century BC to the first century AD. During the fifteenth and sixteenth century, the game was eventually passed from Persia to other parts of Asia, particularly India, Pakistan and China.

Triathlon races in Andalucia

There are actually about 30 triathlon events every year in Andalucia, which are held between February and November, including during the hot summer months. Desafio Doñana is the flagship event organised by the sports agency of the regional government. Others take place in locations in western and central Andalucian coastal areas.

Real Betis Football Team

Betis, full name Real Betis Balompie, followed in 1907, founded by students from the Polytechnic. They were led by another Brit, Henry Jones - known as Papa Jones - who was their first chairman; their inaugural match was also against Huelva, in 1908.

Fishing in Andalucia

The Atlantic and Mediterranean shorelines are ideal for fishing and many of the local marinas provide everything required for a day of open sea fishing. A maritime recreational fishing licence (1st and 2rd Class) is required for fishing from the shore or from a boat near the coast. It is obtainable from the offices of the Delegación Provincial de la Conserjeria de Agricultura y Pesca.

Hunting

Andalucia boasts the largest amount of hunting opportunities within the developed world and offers a great selection of all forms of hunting. It is clear why so many hunters travel to Andalucia each year to enjoy their sport and win prestigious trophies.

There are many karting circuits in Andalucia where you can have fun. They can be found at Campillos, La Puebla de Cazalla, Cartaya, Torre del Mar.

Walking

The landscapes of rural Andalucía are breathtaking and one of the best ways to appreciate their diversity and beauty is on foot. There are designated footpaths, as well as those inside the national and natural parks.

Among these, tennis remains consistently popular and attracts players of all ages.

Many days of sunshine that Andalucia averages each year makes it the perfect place to practice any number of sports, be it on the land, in the water, or in the air. There are many different clubs formed by aficionados that make it easier to practice whatever sport and network with those of like minds and interests.

Padel Tennis

This relatively new sport has become one of the most popular racquet games in Spain and the craze is spreading across Europe. A paddle (pádel' in Spanish) court is smaller than a tennis court, with simpler line markings. It has high surrounding walls of glass and/or solid construction.

Sevilla Football Club

Seville was started first - officially in 1905, but the earliest football match took place in the city before then, in 1890, against the newly-founded Huelva club Deportivo, which was started by British mineworkers who brought the game to Spain, along with British sailors and Spanish students returning from Britain. Its name, Sevilla FC (Football Club, rather than CF - Club de Futbol) reflects its British origins.
