Sports Massage

Sports Massage

by Dee McMath

Sports Massage is a deep tissue body massage, which keep the muscle tissue supple. For regular exercisers it should be part of the overall workout and avoids suffering from painful stiffness and injuries.

A good sports massage will stretch and loosen your muscles, releasing tension and easing pain. It is important to find a properly qualified and well-experienced therapist and in Andalucia there are many, excellent practitioners. One of the best places to find a good sports massage is by visiting a local gym. There is usually a notice board with details of someone who offer sport massage to the gym members. In most sports centres and gyms in Andalucia there is a beauty centre or even sports clinic, which offers massage for sports injuries or better still, regular preventative massage to stay supple and avoid injury.
The larger fitness centres along the Costa del Sol in main towns such as Marbella, Fuengirola and Málaga will usually have English speaking staff in the sports clinic, since so many British and other English speaking people are now resident in these areas. There are also many sport injury clinics along the coast, staffed by practitioners of many nationalities, reflecting the cosmopolitan population of this part of Andalucia.

A sports massage is sometimes not as relaxing as say, an aromatherapy massage, since it aims to stretch and loosen muscles which need attention or which have sustained injury.
Many people who exercise regularly do not realise the benefits and even the necessity of a regular sports massage to avoid pain, stiffness and injury. Muscles should be elastic and joints flexible. Massage can maintain this healthy state and make exercise more enjoyable. If you do some muscular damage, either during exercise or some other physical effort, whether it is on the golf course or in the garden, a sports massage could be answer. Of course, prevention is better than cure and regular massage together with not overstraining yourself could avoid a lot of pain.
