Trocadero Sotogrande

Plaza Marqués de Aracena

Things to See in Carmona

The Alcázar is of Muslim origin and was the residence of King Taifa of Carmona. It was restored several times after the re-conquest and Pedro I of Castile restored it in the thirteenth century. The earthquake of 1504 affected the palace and since then the ruin has been progressive and is now a gracious if expensive Parador. Located on Calle Los Alcázares.

Countryside Walks of Dúrcal

The Márgena fort, dating back to the Nasrid period, is located in the fertile orchards of the Márgena or Mahina plain. This area is irrigated by a Muslim irrigation canal of the same name. Since the sixteenth century, the name of the Márgena neighbourhood has appeared in various chronicles, such as the Books of Survey and Distribution by Madoz, and the sketch of the Marquis of La Ensenada’s land registry.

Seven Estepona Watchtowers

There are about 100 different watchtowers (Torre Vigia or Torre Atalaya or Torre Almenara) along the coast of Southern Spain. Some are of Moorish origins others from date from the later Christian re-conquest period. All with the purpose of looking out for invaders from the South. They have lasted the centuries with remarkable strength.

WiFi and Hot Spots are easy to find in Andalucia. Described on a discussion about the then latest technology on Radio 4, the advent of WiFi was described as lying somewhere between 'Armageddon and Utopia'.

Espelúy

Espelúy is a small town located in the middle of mountainous countryside. The Guadalquivir River, as the protagonist of this region, provides sustenance to the community’s agricultural activity. The town about 620 inhabitants.

A Darker Night

During Granada's spectacular Easter processions, Sub-Inspector Max Romero has a visitor, his sister, Susanna. She is preparing a T.V. programme on San Juan de la Cruz, Spain's sixteenth century mystic poet. In the ruins of San Juan's monastery on the Alhambra hill, they meet a charismatic environmentalist, Francisco Yepes, who later that day finds the body of a gypsy guitarist in a cave.

Airports

There are 9 international airports which serve as regional gateways. Five are located within Andalucia; Malaga, Seville, Almeria, Granada and Jerez, and four located just outside Andalucia; Gibraltar, Faro, Murcia, Alicante. There are also a number of privately operated airstrips which serve non scheduled private aircrafts.

Rainbow Steps, Estepona

The Rainbow Steps in Estepona are a colourful yet little-known attraction, just off the Avenida del Mar. You won’t find the escalera arco iris (marked on maps as part of Arrabal las Mesas or Camino las Mesas) in the guide books or on the official town tourist website, but it is of interest to keep-fit enthusiasts and Social Media fans alike.

Palacio de Mondragón

Ronda's loveliest enclosed space is the Mondragón palace, the heavily renovated and part-modernised remnants of what once was the palace of the Moorish ruler Abbel Mallek, or Abomelic, son of the king of Morocco. The palace is tiny, but much detail remains, in the Mudejar ceilings, some original tiling, and the balconied inner courtyards.

Museo Casa Dirección

The museum was built in 1912 as the residence of John H. Cresswell first director of The United Alkali company and his family. It was later restored, preserving the English architecture. The Museo Casa Dirección displays the heritage that has led to the fame of Valverde del Camino.

Day trips by Car from Marbella

If you are visiting Marbella and are interesting in exploring the surrounding countrysid, hire a car. If you are flying to Málaga Airport or Gibraltar Airport you can hire on arrival or prebook online and collect the hire car on arrival. It is also posible to hire a car in Marbella for a few days.

Fuengirola Bus services

The bus station in Fuengirola is located in the town centre, on Calle Jacinto Benavente, just one road away from the train station. From here you can take buses along the Costa del Sol, west to Algeciras and east to Malaga.

Trumps Bridge Club, Nerja

We are a very friendly international bridge club playing duplicate every week on Mondays and Thursdays throughout the year. We also play on a Friday in January, February and March.
