Cordoba TRAIN STATION

Cordoba Central train station (now officially called simply ‘Cordoba' ) is the train station that was inaugurated in 1994 replacing the old Cordoba Central station that was opened on the edge of the city in 1859 and can still be seen 500m to the north west (where the railway lines were placed in an underpass not to divide the city and reclaim land). It is now used by the regional television company RTVA.

The station caters side by side for both the four AVE standard gauge high speed lines and platforms that were the first in Spain from Madrid to Seville and opened in 1992 and the four lines and platforms of the Iberian broad gage lines. Surprisingly the latter was only rail line from the mesita of central Spain to Andalucia, constructed by MZA (Compania de los Ferrocarriles de Madrid a Zaragosa y Alicante) from 1860 to 1865.
